Ok, Changing the rear springs and shocks on my 1970 Skylark. Question is.. Which bolts if any do I need to pull from the control arms? Top to the rear end? Top to the frame? Bottom to the rear end? Bottom to the frame? Or will the rear end come down enough if I just pull the shocks? Thanks,
None just unbolt the shocks and jack the opposite side up of the axle a few inches switch the spring, and repeat and your set. they'll pull right out. while your there I recommend replacing the upper spring bushings. (little rubber doughnuts) keeps the spring from setting right against the upper spring perch. and inspect your rubber fuel lines to the tank and to the vent. if they're bad i'd replace the ones under the drivers door.
I was thinking I wouldnt have to but just wanted to be sure.. I have a new set of spring insulators so i am good on those..:TU:
New rear springs and new tires all around done today. 245-60-15 front 275-60-15 rear So glad spirng is almost here. Just need to add the center caps and new lug nuts.
What springs did you use? Looks like the station wagon springs a buddy put into his 72 . Lots of rake . How does it rideand handle?
I went with the Moog cc507's. They are very close to the cc501's and cc509's just 2" taller. I used the link below to check the rates and such. Didnt have a chanch to take it for a spin due to the snow but I think they will be ok. http://bbb-carb.com/moog_Coil_Springs.htm
Great looking car. My 71 skylark is the same color combination. I also have the same rear spring change, it handles just like stock and rides slightly stiffer. Since I'm from Illinois I can't drive it much now either. COME ON SPRING!!!:3gears:
That rake really works well. I was thinking I was going to have to go with air shocks.........which I really didn't want to do, but now, I think I'll go this way on my 72 Lark. Great thread.
