Rob What are you doin to me . I sat down to my morning constitutional and open a magazine to see a full page add. RED ALERT my childhood dream car going away. Mecum auctions #s145 I'm crushed. The thought of some lammo using it as a show car instead of beating the hell out of it kills me! I'll Give you the Mary Berger 68 Z and my 70 chevelle SS for starters .:dollar: Pleeeeeasssseeeee. I promiss to race every nostalgia drag race , I'll even advertise discount coffins.com as a free sponsor. For the love of god don't let this car become a dust bunny under the roof of some collectors garage!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHRRRRRRGGGGGGHhhhhhhh:ball:
So u do want an auto Chevelle. Just put the auto that Brian built u in yours. Same guy did both trans Is very sad way to go Rob
you think I 'm jokin. I'm Trying to find someone to buy my 25 acre woods around the corner from my house. Or My 60 up north.Anyone want the Mountain next to Shanty Creek ski resort. Mark you feeling better yet ??? I have idolized that car since a kid. Between RED Alert and the Stagg Chili 70 chevelle I still have a dozen models of those cars. The whole reason I have a 70 chevelle. Me and my buddies used to watch that car every year at Super Chevy at Martin in the 1980s Don't worry Mr Spetzman it's not the yellow sub there selling.
Tim, I'm with you on this one. When Red Alert was for sale on E-bay back in 2006, I drove 750 miles to see it. I bid as far as I dared. It is truly an iconic car. I'm glad that Rob at least shared it with us, and drove it like he stole it.
Well we can ride together down there, because I found a sucker to buy my nova ! And just had an offer for my property. It's MINE!!!! Well a fella caN dream. please please please
Thats exactly what that line is from, but thats exactly what came to mind when Tim mentioned that great car collecting dust.
The only thing that would suck is If I sell everything I love and still come up $100,000 short at the auction ......ou: :ball: we shall see.
the car is a 1970 , the die cast from ertl is a 70 and the model motoring slot car, but the amt model is a 72 for some reason. This car is the kenne bell of BUICKs for chevrolet. Just cool Old drag history- and I dont mean a truck stop drag queen Donny or Rusty.
I have the very same model kit stored away somewhere, never built. I bought it in the early 70's. Unfortunately, my then juvenile, teenaged middle brother chose to deface the box with some rambling jibberish. :spank: Perhaps I ought to return the favor on his real 71 Chevelle SS clone.
When was it last restored? I think I saw it at one Of Fred E's show before it was restoredo No: None the less...awesome historical car!
LOL...no fire sale, just simply thinning the heard. Since finishing the '70 Yenko Deuce drag car last year, Red has basically sat, except for one last flog before winter...and dad is really diggin' racing the Deuce, it was maybe time to move on. As I told Tim & Brian, dad agonized over the decision, because he (like others) has loved this car for so long...he had tried to buy it back in '06 as well, but was too far apart...and it's such a cool car, and we all know once you turn one loose you're not guaranteed to ever get it back if you so desire! It's a reserve auction, so we're not gonna cut it loose just to see it go...and I'd *love* nothing more than to see Tim or even somoene else that will truly appreciate it (race!) end up with it. No "resto" per se, so it should be pretty close to when you saw it at Fred's...as a matter of fact, Fred had the paperwork (and maybe car?) when we got it. You'd have to talk to dad to get the full details, but the doors have been resprayed where the lettering was to return it to the original way Hamilton had it, part (all?) of the hood has been resprayed or maybe touched up to fix a "boo boo", but I believe everything else is original? It's so original (and heavy!) it's crazy...we've had a couple of interior companies spend several hours studying the interior for their reproduction interior pieces. The original tilt, rear window defroster, power windows, console, etc, it's all there...the engine was prettied up during the rebuild (512ci, 163 intake+HP carb), but otherwise it should be pretty close to how it's been for several decades. The original am/fm 8-track is gone (dad may have one?) and the original block is on an engine stand. Also, and this might be the coolest part, we have a copy of the original 8mm video that was taken the day Bob Hamilton drove the car home and gave it to his wife for Valentine's Day (plus old racing footage)...the original license plate is still on the car to this day, plus all the original paperwork I believe. Also, Dick Gazan built the rear end setup (Comp Engineering bought the design) for Stephensen when he started match racing it I believe, and all the original pieces are still there...that's the main reason it's all twisted up, as it needs a good (new) pair of shocks thrown on it and the bars re-adjusted, which we've been wanting to do for a while, but everyone likes the twist?! There's actually a few different variations of the model (plus die-cast)...they've reissued the "Red Alert" model itself a couple of times, plus there's there are a couple of "special edition" models that were in one big box that included Red Alert, an open trailer, and the van that Bob towed the car/trailer with. I'll try and snap some pictures later. Anyway, Now that I've rambled for a bit, if anyone wants any more info on Red Alert, click here: Yenko.net Member's Ride feature
