No, had the original trans but one in there was an NOS 1969 Muncie. As hard as we worked on it I didn’t want to risk my young son or myself accidentally knocking it out of gear in our little driveway back then
No, I think he was talking about "rallies" applied to the optional 14 x 6 "rallies" and the optional 15 x 7 "rallies" - both of which were options as the standard steel wheel was the 14 x 6 size (whether equipped with the std. "poverty" hub caps or extra cost full wheel covers).
Have no clue over 30 years ago, sold it to a close friend for 13k (had over 18k in it at jobber costs and a year of insane labor). Our little family started growing so as always “the family comes first” so I sold it less than 6 months after the restoration. My close friends still give me hell but our family grew up happy despite multiple large trials and I’d do the same thing all over again for that. All I can hope is one of our 3 children strikes it rich and gets good ole Dad a nice one again some day, until then I stare at the crappy fake GSX but lucky to even have that!
Buick stamped a ‘4’ (which stood for Buick in the GM line-up) on the blocks and transmissions at the beginning of the VIN stampings. This car has a ‘7’, which I assume was done by someone who was looking at the VIN of the car... Also, the font they used is not even close to original stampings.
How quickly we forget. I remembered about the wheels. Same tire option as my current '70 Stage 1 4-sp. would've had. For some reason @Mike Trom has it as an SCO option on my window sticker. He talked about that in a thread @ one time. I assumed that option meant the Firestone Wide Ovals for either that or the redline option. It would be nice if they were avail. as radials. I'm planning on going w/14" redlines on my 350 4-sp & would like to put the Firestone on but will probably go w/a radial. Not sure what I'm going to do on the Stage 1.
The Rally steering wheel was an option, so your car was loaded with options! Stage 1, TH400, tinted glass, and a rally steering wheel. I've never seen any '70 Stage 1 that was as bare-bones. Very cool.
The tinted glass option was not required when a car was built with A/C. We have a Stage 1 car with A/C that does not have tinted glass but it does have a tinted windshield. I've also got a Skylark that is the same way, A/C and clear non-shaded glass on the sides but with a soft-ray windshield.
I read somewhere that the Buicks generally came with the Polyglas tires. They do make the Wide Oval in radial. Brian says they ride nice.
Big whoop Frank. They're all numbers matching and triple black. There's more number matching triple black 70 GS's then they made out there. lol
I saw F70-14 OWL in radial & did wind up finding G70-14 Firestone Red Line Wide Oval in radial, but not G70-14 OWL. Maybe they are avail and I missed it.
This car is in the Historical Registry . So if not numbers matching should it be pulled ? not the Buick police but not cool if advertised this way
Thanks! Bill Trevor from the GM training grounds and/or center in Ca. spec'd the car strictly for drag racing for Lennie Kennedy and Jim Bell. Ordered through Reynolds.... That was there way of getting through "the back door" with the car and all the stg2 and prototype parts. Because of the GM racing ban.
they are just a broker so it's buyer beware ! I have been looking for my first Buick GS455 and have been running into clones or misadvertised cars only so far. Just want to find an honest car
