I just shot my car in epoxy primer. The car is completely masked off, including the underside. I will do the body work over the summer so that I can paint it this fall. Even though I will wash the car inside and out before I paint it, I'd like to keep it masked while I do the body work which is only a few dents. How long until the tape becomes difficult to remove? The car won't get wet or see sun and will get reprimed after the bodywork is done.

Blue type tape or "tan" (traditional type)?

The Blue is pretty "finish friendly" and should not pose any problem with adhesive, but might lift at the edges if that is a concern.
The "tan" adhesives will dry out and bond to paint/primer and can be like removing shellac, not something you want. It only takes a few weeks to become a problem and gets worse over time and with heat and low humidity.

Primer is designed to have "teeth" and readily "accept" anything that it can.

Depends on the tape and if it gets wet....post a pic of the tape you used

For some reason, I can no longer post pictures on here but I used mostly 3M 1/2" and 2" and then I finished with Indasa. They are both yellow. I'm not impressed with the Indasa, but the guy at TP tools said it was just as good, but it acts more like Duck brand tape. I will use 3M when I paint the car.

Don't let the syn beat on it...or get it super wet and you'll be fine...can clean residue with alcohol

It won't see sun or water, but I'll probably just remove it. I just didn't want to spend another 4 hours remasking it to reprime it.

Oh I get it....masking is a pain the dick....takes forever to just use it for an hour ha

One thing I've found is if you leave the tape on for a long time, it is a lot harder to get off and more likely to take paint off with it (I've pulled large chunks of drywall texture off the walls when painting rooms in houses after letting the tape sit for a few days). With the high humidity around here, it doesn't take long to get funky. I generally try to take it off as soon as possible.

That's why I just took it off. I'll quit being lazy!

Use the green or blue tape - no yellow/tan/brown stuff. Yes, 3M! Even then wait no more than just a few days.
