Replacement base plate to fit 455 '70 stock manifold and 700r4?

I've cut and welded my old plate so many times, it is very beat up and causing a lot of problems.

Can you get a replacement base plate with shafts, ready to go?

If so, next issue is can you get one with throttle shaft/linkage setup for 700r4 TV Cable, yet still clears '70 manifold?

I had to move TV cable mount away from carb a couple inches to allow free movement without hitting manifold.

I know there are spacer plates for Holley carbs, and for converting from q-jet to Holley, but do they make a spacer plate to simply raise the q-jet on a q-jet manifold? This would allow needed clearance of TV travel, and would allow any baseplate to be used with TV linkage present.

Might swing for an aftermarket manifold. Others with 700r4 and Q-jet, what are you using?

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Found 1" Phenolic Insulating Carburetor Spacer plate, which should give clearance for any baseplate now.

For those using Q-Jet and 700r4, how did you attach 700r4 to linkage?
I know they make Holley and Edlebrock to TV cable adaptors, but Q-Jet to TV cable adaptors I have yet to find.

I think you need an old original. No one makes new.

Try and find out if 350 baseplate is the same for that year. Then just buy a cheap 350 carb and rob the base plate.

I'm at the same point. 350 with 200-4R. I'm going to swap a base plate (or just the throttle shaft) off a Chevy quadrajet in addition to using the carb spacer that you already found.

This is for my tow vehicle, which I'm trying to get best gas mileage with. I guess I would need a baseplate from a later model that had correct linkage for the 700r4. The spacer plate now will allow any baseplate w/700r4 linkage to fit onto manifold. Seems like for my use, CFM would not matter as much, and perhaps the smaller Q-Jet might give best results for fuel economy? Current body is the larger 800CFM version.

Would it make much difference between:
    1. Rebuild current larger CFM carb again, but swap baseplate with smaller?
    2. Start over by rebuilding another carb that has proper linkage, yet probably smaller CFM?
    3. Get another larger CFM carb to rebuild, and add some sort of "correct" adapter for the 700r4 TV cable?
Choice 2 would be easiest to do.

Be careful when changing baseplates across makes. Most are different. Maybe Buick are the same between V8;s for the same year. They do change from year to year. You are opening a bad can of worms swapping stuff. More aftermarket carbs have been sold because of people swapping qjet parts and when things go bad tha badmouth the qjet. Find a good intact 71-74 Buick 455 carb and have it rebuilt and all will be good with the world.:bglasses:

I have also seen kits somewhere for sale for adding a TVR cable. You do not have to change carb. Don't try and starve your engine for sake of mileage. Wont matter much anyway. I think maybe in GS club newsletter I saw add for TVR stuff.

Yep, kits are available for adding 700r4 TV cable....... To a Holley carb and to an Edelbrock carb. My last mod included cutting/drilling/welding an adaptor for TV to Holley kit, and forcing it to be "close".

No one makes one for older non TV Q-Jet to TV cable in the 10 months I've been looking. I hope someone proves me wrong, because that would make life much easier.

I did find a complete kit from Bowtie Overdrives for $110 plus shipping, but for that price I could just get a used Q-Jet with factory TV mount and a rebuilt kit. I don't need a TV cable or spacer plate. Aleady have new. The Holley and Edelbrock adaptors (not to be confused with their intake to TV adapters) run about $20, which would be fine, if they made a Q-Jet part.
