    Hi there.. :)

I'm considering replacing my stock 66 Roch. Quadrajet carb for a newer/bigger Quadrajet..

My question is this..: Can I use "any Quadrajet" from say 68-73 ( the 800 ccm carbs, prepared for AT transmission) and how much (if any) of the existing Carb linkage can be re-used??

Hope any of you Quadrajet gurues have the time to reply..?
As a LAST option .. does any other carbs like Holley etc,etc fit easily?

    Yours truly

For the 66 only q-jet intake.. As far as I can tell, you will have to either space the newer 68-74 carbs up approx 1/4" or grind a bit off the side of the intake to allow room for the fast idle screw setup... You will also have to block off the exhaust crossover or cover it very well as the newer carb bases are offset compared to the oem '66 to very early '68 carb bases... I started to play with changing mine to a '74 800 cfm unit, but have settled on a late '67 unit for now..

Here's a link to an older thread I found on the subject a while back..

    Thanks.. :)

Seems a 67 Quadrajet is the "easiest swap".. :)

Just beware, it is a divorced choke carb. The later '67 carb has the screw in needle and seat, vs, the the early '67 which still used the plunger style -same as your '66... they sell conversion needle/seats for them and are highly recommended... The '67 or very early '68 throttle shaft will swap into a later model 800 cfm if your looking to upgrade in the future.. the '66 won't... Seems they were making alot of changes and upgrades quickly in the early life of the Qjet..

Good to know, Thanks!:TU: I picked up a 67 carb cheap, not really knowing what it was. But it had the same linkage as the 66 carbs, so it was worthwhile.

The eBay carb from JSS is a great deal. I bought 2 from him in the past.

I suppose one could just swap the '66 or '67 throttle linkage end as well... Only a couple of rivets holding it on... The '76 and later carbs may fit without grinding the intake edge.. as one said in the linked thread... I have yet to confirm it tho... As a final note, If you were still thinking of another brand carb.. they do make adapter plates for them as well... Pretty much comes down to what your comfortable with...
