replacement carb

    put a 1973 455 in my 48 chevy pu. what is a good replacement carb? also having trouble cooling . put a 4 core radiator with a vintage air puller 3700cfm fan and a 2500 cfm pusher with ac on heats up if use ac if temp outside above 85 . new water pumpneed help thanks 48chevpu.

    Contact one of the Carb rebuilders from this site. I feel the Q-Jet is best for 90% of street applications.

    To help cool engine, try mechanical clutch fan (Stock)

    I agree with Greg. Find a 73 BUick 455 carb and have it rebuilt by Everyday Performace (a vendor on this board). He can even find you a carb and save you half the shipping....

    Knowing when the engine temp starts to rise would help. if it starts at low speeds, I would suspect air flow through the radiator. That would include the fan's proximity to the radiator, the closer the better, the more blades the better, the higher the speed the better. If this issue occurs at speeds above 40mph, I would suspect coolant flow speed or radiator capacity. Knowing the size of the components is less important than knowing what the combination needs. One more thing to consider is the realtive humidity. The higher the relative humidity, the higher the heat load, as humid air is more difficult to cool than dry air. Ray
