My friend tried to use the new repro throttle cable and noticed that it was too long? This is the plastic section when held against an original is about an inch too long. Also the ball socket does not snap in correctly and could fall off the carb. I bought one at the GS nationals and my friend bought several. Needless to say we are not happy. I would think it would have been just as easy to make these the proper length to begin with. Anyone else have problems?

Is this Frank M's cable? I don't know of anyone else making one. Seems unusual that this is the first I've heard of a fit problem, and they've been on the market for quite a while, a year or more I think. I have one myself, for future plans. Now, I'm NOT familiar with the 455 cables, but I'm wondering if they were slightly different in different cars? Frank showed pictures of his repro next to an oem cable, and it appeared to be identical, to me anyway.

I've seen a similar issue, where it did not pull the carb all the way to WOT

Just hold it next to an original and try and snap it on the carb ball!

Gentlemen I'm sorry your cables aren't fitting. This is the first problem I've heard about. First of all the cable was modeled after a 70 stage one cable. It is for STOCK applications meaning only using the stock intake manifold. Also it is for 400, 430, 455 only. This is NOT a 350 cable. The 350 cable is only about 8 inches between the mounting brackets. It will not work with a Performer or any other aftermarket intake. Make sure you have the right cable bracket. This also has meaning as to where your cable will fit. There is a small clip in the hole end that might have to be crimped a little to tighten it on the ball. I use a tool called long nose pliers to do this. Let me know. Frank

Thanks for the reply Frank. I have not tried mine yet however my friend has had problems with his stock 455. Cable is about an inch to long and binds. I guess like you said the ball problem could be remedied with pliers btu maybe you could re-check length with some originals. All 455 GS are the same 70-72. Also the stock cable works fine with an Edel. performer and Qjet. I have used it for years. Be curious to see what you find.

Let's go easy on Frank people. At least he's getting product out there and providing us quality products, not to mention the fact he is responding and interested in your feedback. Do you really think the CEO from YearOne would respond, or even care if this issue occured with one of their products. I have purchased a few repro parts and very few were actually perfect bolt on applications (with the exception of course of Frank's overflow tank).

It's not exactly like people are lining up to remake parts for our cars. There is distinction between railing on someone and simply asking for assistance from the vendor. (I do realize that the tenor of these posts are not exactly confrontational, this relates more to a spate of complaints)

My advice: you have an issue; PM the vendor first and try to work it out before we throw them under the bus. I doubt Frank is making millions on his Buick repro parts, and if the hassel is too great he's gone. Then we'll all something else to bitch about; no one making any parts for our cars.

Now, let my cyber ass kicking begin.

Actually they aren't all the same. Some were flexible and some had internal structure so you could bend it and it would hold the shape, they make an odd clicking sound when you do that, not sure exactly what is in there. Also the intakes were different heights, the bracket changed in 71, the ends on the cables are different as well.

Minor stuff of course, but none the less saying they were all the same 70-72 is not exactly correct. Not sure how all this would affect length, but I do know the original cable on my 71 also runs an edelbrock/qjet combo no problem (no spacers though, just the gm heat shield).

The problem with creating parts is no two cars are identical and over the years wierd things happen like the balls get replaced on the linkage or clips or brackets are swapped or who knows what...also depends on body to frame alignment as well, can add another 1/4" there and still be within factory specs etc.

I'm sure it will all get sorted out.

Not trying to pick on Frank at all just pointing out a difference I have seen that maybe can be corrected with later runs.

Problem was on MY end, NOT Frank's.
B4B sets carb Back, so cable is slightly long.
IF you take a Crimp on Fishing sinker, and remove slack, using the sinker as the new stop,on the pedal end, problem IS resolved.
I had to do the same on the original Cable due to the change as well.

I have since talked woth friend using Franks Cable who said that extra length has made it difficult for connector on cable to fit snug in the fire wall.
