I bought a Year One chrome oil cap that is for a '70 455. It fits, but will not stay tight. We tried bending the tabs to make it better, it did help, but it keeps coming loose. Is there an aftermarket chrome cap that fits tight in the reproduction chrome valve covers? The chrome covers I have came from Poston's (they refuse to seal up themselves, but that's another thread :af: ) Oil cap does not have to be "correct" as per this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=82095&highlight=chrome+oil+cap just chrome, decent looking and STAYS TIGHT!!
Annie, I bought one off the shelf at Auto Zone, I think. Its a nice fit and looks good. I have it the repro chrome covers from Noah Performance. Here's a pic, a little blurry :spank:
i had the same problem finding a tight filler cap. i got one from a mid 80's 3.8 in chrome. it was the same as original for 70's stage 1 with AC markings. only difference is it has a blue sticker over the AC code.
Most 1984 Buick Centuries with the 3.0 litre emblem on the front fender have these Stage-1 oil filter caps. Buick must have had lots left over. I have found many of these in the junkyards over the years but they are getting scarce. These are found on wagons and sedans and all I have found have had a black sticker that you peel off. Buy every one you see as they are dirt cheap. Some of these cars also may have a plastic oil cap. There appears to be no ryme or reason what a car has that I have discovered. Check your local yards as you can always sell them!
