    Re: Riviera

Is that in solid Sterling or in weak US dollars ?

Maybe you should check the market on the continent, it will save you from high shipping costs and import tax.
If the car is already registered in an EU country, you don't pay any import tax and the UK has to accept it for registration because it was already registered in another EU country.

(That's how we work around the registration for custom cars: First ship it to Blighty for registration because your rules are not so tight, and after that ship it to the Netherlands for Dutch registration)

    Here are a few examples:

    Custom 1967 LPG Netherlands :Comp:

    1972 Netherlands :Comp:

1972 (with 1973 front) Netherlands :Comp:

    1971 LPG Netherlands :Comp:

Thanks BadRiv...euro cars seem to be a bit expensive ..that 67 is nice but I dont want a car too nice as I want to make it my own..Lemmy..as for cars on ebay its difficult to get an accurate description..thus far over the years I have imported one total dissappointment, one mediocre and one excellent..I imagine club members might be a bit more honest..BUT IF ANYONE HAS A FRIEND WITHA STRAIGHT 55/56 OR 60 CADDY COUPE I NEED TO KNOW..not leaving BUICKS behind I will always have a RIVIERA somewhere Thanks Guys

    Re: Riviera

Could be...but bondo isn't all that bad if it's done right. The body shop which restored my 67 used a bit of blue bondo here & there where it was necessary, but didn't use it to fill holes or do structural work. This one just looks a tiny bit rusted with some paint bubbling up on the lower quarters.

Good news is that this one doesn't look like it's been hit or bent in any bad structural areas, and should clean up pretty well. Maybe you could get a board member in Suffolk County, NY to take a look for you? I used to know a friend in Brentwood, but he moved to Austin, TX many years ago.

    Re: Riviera

If you are REALLY serious about the car I can take a look. Here is the bad. I'm going away on Thursday and will be back on Sunday. So I can only get to it Monday and on. Tomorrow I am swamped with work. There are a few more Suffolk guys out there, that might be able to help you out if it has to be seen within the next few days, hopefully one will chime in- if you Really want the car, I am sure some one will come to the rescue.

    Re: Riviera

Good choice of desired year Rivieras. I've had both generation cars. Being from the north eastern United States rust belt and seeing countless 67s over the past 30 years, you are correct that car will have very SERIOUS rust issues. I can tell from the visible rust locations in pics it has many more issues you can't see. Sometimes eastern cars will have better interiors because of the climate compared to states like Arizona, Nevada and California but this interior is toast and the reupholstery work it had done was very poor quality. The pot metal trim is also pitted. It probably runs good but with not even one complete sentence as the listing description, I'd be afraid to pay more than $700 for this one sight unseen. It appears the tires are the most attractive part of it but thats just my personal opinion.

Be patient in your search - While good solid cars still come up for sale at reasonable prices, its not everyday you can find them. Make some connections by joining ROA and/or BCA. Being a member improves the chances of finding a car as well as improving the chance of finding qualified people to check out a car for you across the US

    Re: Riviera

Tony BIG thanks for the offer...truly grateful.. but I am not enthusiastic about this one..My 69 took me a year working outside replacing the entire bottom 6" of the car along with a trunk floor and most of the dash/windscreen surround..etc etc Came from Queens good pkotos but still had the trim and vinyl on..gutted when it arrived !! CANT do that again need to find a SOLID car..Rust free (well within reason) driver needing paint interior is what I need...Jason see above 11112005(001).jpg when it first arrived

Jason's correct about the east coast, I lived in upstate NY for half of my life, and the winters would rust out every car within 4-5 years. I was lucky to locate my Riviera in SoCal, and it spent its entire life in a warm, dry environment. The paint and interior were deteriorated, but the metal was 98% intact, with only 1-2" of metal needing to be patched in on the passenger side front fender.

Best keep your eyes open for one in the Southwest USA, but the ones which are running/rolling are likely to be highly coveted. You'd be lucky to get one under $10k.

    Bernard -

I have a 72 Riviera available with good sheetmetal, no rust just a few small dents.
Spend most of its life in South Carolina and Georgia.
Mostly original but not the original wheels or radio. A/C has rebuilt compressor for new refridgerant.
Has been re-painted by needs new pait
Chrome is showing its age, but I have a second set of bumpers in better condition.
Interior has dark brown dash, off-white upholstery, split bench front seat.
I have about $8K into it, planning on stripping and re-paint over the winter.
But money is tight and I will sell to someone who will appreciate the car.

    E-mail me if interested: stbaschmit@hotmail.com
