I have this carb on an 215CI Aluminum V8 in my Skylark. And not matter what I do I can not get it to idle, even when warm. Now I know this carb is probably original ( 62) . The only way I can keep it running is to constanly modulate the accelerator. I have added an electric fuel pump and electronic ignition , so I know its not fuel or spark issue. What should I be looking for when I strip this thing. I dont know much about car carbs , plenty about motorcylce carbs . Are there rebuild kits for these things or should I simply go look for a replacement carb . Im guessing I may have an idle jet blockage
Are there any carbs that are drop in that may be a better alternative
    TIA

Probably something simple like a small blockage in the idle circuit. I am pretty sure rebuild kits should be available at parts stores. When you take it apart, you probably won't notice anything blocking any passages. It only takes a very small particle to screw things up.

The Rochester 2G series two-barrel is one of the simplest and most bullet-proof carburetors ever produced (MOO).

If the carburetor is to blame, it will probably be a piece of foreign material in the idle jet. Disassembly, cleaning, and the installation of a good rebuilding kit should solve any problem with this carburetor.

In the FWIW category, I would run a compression test prior to rebuilding the carb. If the compression is good, I would try a "points and condenser" distributor before rebuilding the carb. Seems many that call us with "carburetor problems" have installed an electronic conversion. Hmmm!

IT was doing this before the conversion. I wish I had a camera , but the difference in spark between the before ( points and orginal coil) and the after ( Flamethrower coil and converson of points distributor to electronic pickup ) is amazing .A compression test is a good idea, need to get a compression tester. . This carb probably needs a serious cleaning. Where is a good source for rebuild kits ?. ALso do you know what kind of PSI is good for a 215?
I understand if they are all consistent then that is good , however a number value would be nice
    Thanks all :beer

Since you had the problem prior to the electronic conversion, that may rule out the electonics this time (although I still wouldn't bet on it :) ).

I would think rebuilding kits would be available locally (look for the tag on the carburetor and get the number, otherwise you must go by application and are guessing). If not locally, I am positive they are available mail order. :TU:

hey TIA. great to have someone else here with the 215 tourque monster  i LOVE these little engines (23 mph  )i purchased a rebuild kit from advance auto. you should be able to find a kit at most parts houses. i have two of these fine engines. they both run great! compression in the one is 135 for the high and 120 for the low and it runs fine. my other one runs 155 for the high 150 for the low and runs even better! hope this helps. these engines new ran 160.
