I've got the engine back together, at last. Took the carb off to clean it up, inside and out. I found the gasket between the base and the intake manifold to be completely shot, the one that is about 1/8th" thick and also the one between the top and main carb body was not at all re-usable. Contacted my usual parts supplier here in the U.K. ..... bad news, can't get me replacements for at least 5-6 weeks, Argghhhh! Can any of you folks suggest an outlet I may be able to contact direct in the States via e.mail to get them any quicker ? The carb is a Rochester Quadrajet, numbers on the body are; 7043240 / 1153 & 7047931. those last ones are in a circular shape cast into the body, the others are stamped in to it. The carb is on a 1973 455ci, fitted to an Electra 225. As always, any help is welcomed and appreciated. Also, do you know of a good outlet for the rubber trim, especially the weather trim around the doors and between the glass and roof seal. Thanx, and have fun out there. Dave.

This is from www.partsamerica.com (I think they do Napa's online stuff). Your carb is listed here. I don't know if it would include the base carb gasket though.

Thanx guys, contacted Daytona parts, got a reply straight away and the parts are on their way as I write. Should hear that hunk of steel rumblin' away any day now, can't wait. Thanx again, Dave.

  8. I must assume the gaskets aren't the same every year? I have a 70 750cfm qjet #7040247, that I bought used about a year ago. This is a A/T 455 carb, Riv I believe. I just discovered there is a carb base gasket also in the box, hidden between cardboard pieces. It is steel center, with backing material on both sides. There is printing on it that says "Klinger WB1", and a # is hand-written on it "20-0102". I'm planning on putting this carb on my 350 this spring. Well, I put the gasket in place, and some of the linkage on the side of the carb does not clear the gasket, the linkage extends below the level of the carb base. I have a 72 350 intake, non-emissions, and the 70 Qjet. Is the Fel Pro 60151 going to work with this carb, or do I need a different one? I searched the sites listed above, without much luck figuring anything out.

  9. BTW, I am planning on stopping by my local NAPA to see if they've got something in stock that is correct.

  10. Ah, just found out what the Klinger stuff is all about:

I'm not an expert on making carbs fit, but I would be inclined to think that the gasket that will fit the '72 350 4 bbl. would be the one you should use.:bglasses:

  12. Joe, you're probably right. I may just have to do a bit of gasket trimming for clearance for this carb.

  13. And this is the one NAPA shows for a 72 350-4:

  14. This pic shows the gasket that I discovered hiding in the carb box, and the NAPA gasket I picked up today. NAPA lists the same part # for both a 72 350-4 and a 70 455. You can see the NAPA gasket is narrower.

That one on the right is.......interesting.

Have you verified where that thing came from? Kinda looks like it would fit a much later model with lots of smog bits:grin:

  16. No idea Adam. It was hidden in the box with the 750 Qjet I bought from Bill last year. I'll get around to asking him about it sooner or later. I didn't even know it was in the box until I took the carb out again yesterday. He never mentioned it when I bought the carb.
