I have a low comp 455 and my roomate said I should supercharge it with a thunderbird supercharger from a junk yard. I thought that it would be way to low of boost to be worth it. Or I would have to run an insane pulley ratio. Could it ever work.

Do a search, I think there was just a post about this 1-2 months ago. Maybe that was about a turbo.

I'm pretty sure I had the same idea about a similiar S/C I had laying around from my RIvvy. The idea got shot down since they are designed around 6 cylinder airflow and not near enough to boost a BBB. I think the consensus was that 2 of them might work.

Im guessing your talking about a turbo charger and the turbo coupe thunderbird? While walking around the junkyard today I found some old 80's econo-box chrysler that was turbocharged.

Remember that when you size a supercharger you have to consider the pressure boost *and* CFM. The T-bird SC would not give you the correct CFM (or anywhere near).

Here's an analogy that works pretty well... try running a 400meter sprint breathing through a snorkle. An Eaton M90 is a 90cid positive displacement blower, per revolution you get 90cid of air. Some 231cid motors have over maxed out these blowers as it is, don't try saddling your 455cid motor with one, 2 might be possible but hardly worth the time.

Look around at www.toohighpsi.com and look for the SuperChargedTurboCoupe (SCTC). Pretty cool build up and quite detailed.

He was running in the 10's back in '02....may have hit 9's by now.

That's with 'only' a 351"......try the same with a 462" and you should get there much easier!! :TU:

This could be duplicated with a carb application and a front mount intercooler. It would be easier with the Ford SuperCoupe Eaton superchargers.....like he did. I guess the Buick version could be used, you'd have to build custom output flanges (as he did for better flow). If you don't turn up the wick too far, you could use the stock Ford pieces.

I'm helping a friend do one of these conversions to a 425" Nailhead. Slow going, but we'll get there eventually. Currently working on a custom serpentine pulley setup for his Nailhead. If anyone has already done that - give me a shout!!

Supercoupe blower are M60's 60cid blowers.

Nope......I used to think they were the M62's also. Turns out Ford used the M90. :TU:

I think there is a generational difference like the L67 when it went to the M90's. The Ford package is easier to work with though with its top exit and RWD designed inlet. The GM L67 puts the throttlebody straight into the firewall.
Is that a TEC 3 system I see on there?
