Almost time to start to get as much as the original Dipolmat Blue back as I can. There is some rust stains on the quarter panel.. Best way/ any way to get these out, without damaging the paint? I have seen some people use denatured alcohol and CLR / rust remover..

George, on my original paint charger years ago I removed rust staining with compound, a cutting pad, and a meguiar’s DA buffer. See pics below. I believe Dodge used enamel paint back then. It’s hard to tell in your photo but I bet it would come right out if it’s similar

These are what I have/use. The red pad is their most abrasive. The buffer has an adjustable RPM dial that makes burning through paint virtually fool proof. I would be happy to loan it out to you if you don't have a DA buffer, but it might be cheaper to buy a harbor freight knock off then pay the shipping. There is a lot of life left in that paint. On a side note.. prices for this stuff has gone crazy. My complete kit in 2017 from Meguairs (buffer, 3 pads, 1 bottle of each compound, polish, wax, and the towel set) was $299...

For a blue comparison: my 38 Buick was painted in the 60s. Here is what the same buffer/compound did.

Crazy? I wonder what a constantly dampened cloth of evaporust would do?

Any mild abrasive, even Bon-Ami would remove those stains. Follow up with compound/wax.

    Evaporust doesn’t hurt paint.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Don't use rubbing alcohol! It dissolves some paints. Ask me how i know...
