I called them last week to inquire about a radio upgrade and the informed me the owner died. Their not taking any new work and sounded like they were unsure the future of the business. Sad to hear as they did good work and sold some nice products.
I can not imagine that business without Greg. Incredible knowledge and skill. And, he was the finest gentleman that you would ever meet. RIP. https://www.startribune.com/obituaries/detail/0000406702/
Extremely sad. Fortunate enough to have chatted him up a few times while checking in on my order last year - stock was on back order due to COVID delays. Only spoke to him a few times but was always friendly and generous with his time. Rest in peace
Wow, this is terrible news but thanks for the information. I had them on my list to contact next week for a couple of speakers for my Buick. I hope the business survives.
Sad to hear this. Greg has done most all my radios for the last fifteen years. I talked to him several months ago and he was covered up with work.
Hello, I have a new lead on radio conversions. Ralph the radio Guy out of Bartlett, Illinois. He said he frequently spoke to Greg regarding rebuilding radio’s. Really nice guy and great communication and Service. He did a Aurora conversion for me. Originally quoted 2 week lead time and radio was done in a week. Aurora setup with Bluetooth, hands free phone (mini microphone where antenna adjustment was), usb output, aux for iPod, jack for extra microphone and jacks for an amp if I want to add. Can’t wait to get it hooked up.
You'll love the sound of the Aurora conversion. Just be sure to mate it with good speakers. I love mine and didn't even feel that I had to add the power amp I had to option installed for. Sounds great without it.
Glad to hear. Wasn’t sure on power as they usually over quote wattage. Going w alpine s-s69 in the rear and 2-4” s-s40 alpine’s up front. In the process of making this speaker now. Just need to finish mounting bracket.
I received a call last night from S-M Electro Tech. It was the daughter of the owner who recently passed. She tells me they are stopping operations and closing. She gave me two options on a AM radio conversion I sent to them in October. One was to simply send it back to me. Option two was that they would send it to the place I've linked. I told her to just send it back to me and I'll figure what to do next. Sad they are closing. https://www.mcrconversions.com/
Does anybody know where "Muscle Car Radio Conversions" is? I see the phone number is area code 612.... Their website doesn't seem to say.

I used Ricks radio conversation…. Great guy. He has his stuff up on YouTube so you can check him out. Agree with another post, I skipped the amp. I did wire it for subwoofer as that really improves the richness of sound.
Turns out MCR Conversions is in Blaine MN. That's north of Mpls, and practically right on top of where S M Electrotech is/was.
Glen, Jim Shepard in Phoenix did my Sonomatic AM radio last year. Works great and he also added Bluetooth compatibility. I had previously bought a new front speaker from Turnswitch as well. Sad to hear the business is closing.
Thanks for the info. I really wanted their two speaker front dash unit and wiring harness to go with it.
