Sad day at our house

This morning Lee took the dogs to Grandpa's house for breakfast as usual. Little Jenny suffered a probable aneurism (sp?) as she gaily ran around the yard. She just turned 3 on 11/29. It sure will be hard to have a Merry Christmas this year.

She was a good hunter and constantly scanned the skies for birds. No squirrel or rabbit escaped her notice either. This summer she actually caught a squirrel who was less than 10 feet from a tree.

Jenny was such a sweet and snuggly pup. If I was sitting on the floor she would sneak up behind me and put her head under my arm and the next thing I knew she was laying on her back in my lap. Quite the trick for a 60# dog. She always slept next to me and I fell asleep every night while pulling on her soft ear. She was full of love and joy and our hearts have big holes in them right now. Godspeed sweet Jenny, we miss you already.

  3. Connie and Lee,

I'm terribly sad to hear of your loss. It is so hard to lose a Lab, young or old. I had to fight back the tears as I read your post, as it brought back memories of our first Black Lab, Dante, that we lost to cancer a year ago, at 8 yrs old. I was home alone for a weekend when the time came, to decide that he was suffering too much. The house was so empty without him, we had to go find another puppy after just 2 days.

They truly are family members, aren't they? Dante was a lap dog at 90 lbs! If we were driving in the pickup, he was on my wife's lap with his head out the window! He slept in our bed until he passed the 80# mark...

    Connie,

My heart goes out to you.

I honestly believe we are reunited with our pets in the after-life. You'll see her again and she'll crawl into your lap like it was yesterday.

You'll never forget her, and right now she's waiting for you.

    Peace.

We have 10 rescues. Just like kids to us. So sorry this happened. Having had so many the best medicine, when you are up to it, is go to the pound and rescue another soul.

Seen a bunch of people that were not worth rescuing, but never seen a dog that was not .

Every time I hear of a loss like you have just experienced I think of the pets we have loved and lost here at our home. Always bring tears to my eyes but then I remember....."The Rainbow Brige"

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

"Jenny is there now, waiting for you"

    God bless.

    Connie,

Sorry to hear about Jenny. Darn its hard when they go. My Jake (Border collie mix) is six now and starting to have leg troubles. I don't wanna think to hard about it. I guess all we can do is treat these companions as best we can since we know their time here is short. May you have many more wonderful "best friends" come into your life!. If it makes you feel better, I'll post some pictures of me acting normal (Idiotic)?!? Take care,

    So very sorry

I found this a while back.

    Four Feet in Heaven

Your favorite place is vacant now
No eager barks to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run
    Ecstatically to greet me.
No coaxing nose, no doleful eyes
Will say its time for feeding.
Ive put away your bowls and
All the things you wont be needing.
For I will miss you my dear friend, and I could never measure,
The happiness you brought to me, the comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here to share in earthly joy and sorrow.
Im sure hes found a place for you,
    In Heavens bright tomorrow.

I am sorry for your family's loss. I know how it feels to lose a beloved friend such as a pet. I had to put down my childhood dog when I was 16. My best friend now, Lucy, is a yellow lab pup about 7 months old who looks identical to Little Jenny. Reading your post made me think of her and how you must feel and it tugged at my heart. Sorry for your loss.

    Connie and Lee,
I feel for your loss. I too had a hard time reading your post with tears in my eyes. There's something about the relationship between humans and dogs that goes beyond description. I have known many good people in my time but I have yet to meet one who is willing to be as forgiving and unconditional as my dog was. She was taken from us suddenly three years ago and my heart still aches for the laughter and joy that she provided for our entire family. Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

I just want to Thank you all for this thread and for being such caring people in a world that's not so caring anymore.

Tonight we lost our cat Louie, he was only a little over a year old.

My brother had saved him from abandonment on the railroad tracks, by where he worked around Thanksgiving of '02. He brought him home to my parents who are in their early 70's due to the fact they had just lost the family cat of 20 years in the spring of '02. He thought the new kitten would be company to them. He had a good year and couple of months and being so young and lively.

My brother had a few questions about where our animals go and I remembered this post. I printed it changing the name to his name and let him read it.

    Again,

Thank you very much, this old world can be very cruel sometimes and it's good to know there are caring people out there.

    Sad eyes

Your brother rescuing Louie and bringing him home to comfort your parents speaks volumes about his character.
You seeking to comfort your brother speaks volumes about YOU!
Here on a frosty Sunday morning I have received a lesson on the ties that bind... and love.
Animal lovers are truly the best sort of friends to have.
Losing both Louie and your great Uncle in one day was an exceptionally cruel blow.
Maybe when times are better a shelter could be visited? There may just be a small face with pleading eyes and a thundering purr just waiting for someone to love it.

Wishing you and your family brighter days ahead.

Jay I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your Great Uncle and Louie the kitty. I guess the most comforting thing for us has been to remember that we are only grieving for our own loss. Our loved ones (human and animal) are home with God, and to them it won't be but a few minutes until we are reunited.

Hugs to you and your family,
    Connie
