@72gs4spd has a set but had a setback w/the car it was going in getting wrecked & then his machinist passing away.
Thats right I forgot. At least he bought the 72 GS that was on Fantomworks.. Solid car "knock on wood" but Fantomworks didn't do it right but easily fixed.
How many times has a buyer want a Stage 1 or an SP3 intake and they've been out of stock? Same with roller cam cores, 455 alum heads & intakes, etc. If there were some Street Eliminator heads on shelf, finished, they will slowly and steadily sell like all their products. The whole world seems to be in a supply chain shortage.
Supply chain and skilled labor I hope things come around for TA soon as far as product making its way back on the shelves.
Was there a time that TA had close to everything available that they advertised or within reason? Even their online catalog is lacking new info.. Lots of the cars they show that are TA sponsored or have TA parts have improved. They still have the video of their famous bread and butter just about full bodied wagon still doing a 8:99 1/4 when it's doing something like a 8:30 1/4 now. That wagon is a huge advertisement for them and I don't get why the online catalog is still old information. There's a difference between paper catalogs which I used to get a new one yearly and was updated frequent and the doing the online one. It's kinda like TA got depressed and just stopped. Dam Covid did number at the wrong time and its after effects are lingering.
As I've said on here, I had a business w/an extremely similar model. I bought exclusive semi-finished raw materials & did all machining, welding, etc., modified some existing product, made both standard & custom built products, re-sold some products, did some post-assembly, and some semi-OEM production which yes, takes priority. There was never enough human/financial resources. I don't regret it but it was unbelievably frustrating to not be able to do everything that needed to be done, supply product when there was insatiable demand, build up any stock, develop products that you knew there was a market for, capitalize on opportunities that were practically dropped in my lap, juggle the cash, keep machines running, etc., etc., etc. Meanwhile, customers were frustrated, employees were frustrated, there was always lots of online chatter that couldn't be addressed, & people always wanted to say what I "should" be doing. Maybe I just sucked at it too & maybe I should've done some things differently, but having been in their shoes I'm very sympathetic to what TA is experiencing. After 20 years & literally $millions of my own $, I finally had to throw in the towel. I hope TA is in better shape.
It gets busy enough, which is good, but the one man show isn’t working anymore. You start looking for SKILLED DEPENDABLE help, and a lot of time you come up short
I'm assuming TA is more than a one-man show. I had several employees. Most very good but def. some bad ones.
Look at it this way...The Stage 1 intake is $485. Saves weight, but no extreme h.p. increase. One bare Street Eliminator head is $825. Much much more machining involved, acc holes, spark plugs, rocker mounts, intake & exhaust holes, all threaded. Head surface, exh & intake flanges all machined, bronze guides & hardened int & exh seats all installed. Plus the weight savings AND way more h.p. potential than the Stage 1 intake. A good deal if you ask me.... They will slowly & steadily sell as they're available.
Can the heads just be ordered thru Scott Brown and have the cnc porting done at that time? that is what this thread is about isn't it? 350 Buick, most underrated, engine, ever.
Its design is like a diesel engine, bore smaller than the stroke, deep skirt block. The 5.3 LS’s bore is under 4” So that leaves the heads as the key to the LS’s output.
So that means you rev the engine to 7 grand and take advantage of the small bore. gsjohnny does it all the time you don't see his scattered everywhere. We need to rethink this engine and turn it into a rev master. Now you just need to get the velocity up high in those heads and rev the crap out of it. We have what that LS does not, big stroke for the small engine. If we could hear what the plan is from Scott Brown we/I could order the heads Tomorrow as I know it will take till next year to get done, so anyone know what the scoop is with this? What ya think those heads will do with my solid flat tappet cam I am installing, if it works out the heads wold be a nice installment, I am now in a better position to do this now so what gives .
Why not reach out yourself @ www.buy racingproducts.com or better call him at 616-499-6223 to see what he says?????
I ordered a set on layaway today! $100 down is all it took. Exciting and fortunately I'm in no hurry whatsoever but I really wanted a set. Will decide on the details later. Hopefully Scotty will be set up to port them. I already have everything here to build a set of big valve ported iron heads exc. the actual porting work & plan on doing so anyway. Have 2 GS 350 cars & planning an iron head engine/intake for one. Already have a Gessler ported iron intake & NASCAR t/o rods. Have a DP alum. intake but damn, a SP w/alum heads for the other car sounds the ticket! Going to send my crank out as soon as I get rod bearings. Goal w/the iron head car (4-sp./3.91) is completely stock appearing high 12's on 26-27" drag radials which based on my last 350 4-sp car seems quite doable. I agree w/Guy that gotta be able to spin 'em up - The NHRA boys do it w/all iron so... In the theoretical equation for HP, RPM is a variable. No lead time given except "it's going to be awhile." In their catalog it says 12 mos. max. for layaway & I asked if it could be longer since I didn't expect they'd be ready by then and Sheri said they'd definitely work with me. Since they're willing to do lay-a-way, I'd think they'd also take orders on these w/o a huge deposit, which I suggested they do. I'm not sure if the big (½) deposit was ever required or if @Mark Demko just did it on his own? But if that's the case, get 'em ordered! Mike T. gave me some intereting news on the heads last night but not sure if I'm at liberty to post it publicly - I'm waiting to hear back from him & forgot to ask Sheri.
Dano, If you have a Gessler ported iron, that's all you need for stock class. Sell that d/p & get the SP3 for your fun engine. I see both intakes are now the same price....$485. SP3 was the better deal for a while.
