Am I alone here, with my dread and distaste for the holidays? Seems each year as the holidays gets closer my stress level goes through the roof and doesn't get better until after the first. Today were hosting all the local family and some of their friends that dont have anyone nearby. Guest are due to arrive within the hour and I'm looking for a place to hide.

Assembled the oil pump and timing cover for " Fat Bastard" ( what Im calling the most recent build) and got it installed on the block. Found a broken off bolt that had been ground flush on one of the water port bolt holes. drilled and tapped that and mounted the cover. So now Im pretty much out of excuses to be hiding out in the shop. Anyway, wish me luck, its about to get real all up in here!

Breathe my friend. It (the stress) will go away soon.
Eat some food, it is generally good as a stress reliever:D
    And yes I do understand...

Your guests don’t have to know you fixed it! You could keep fixing it all day!

Time to start looking for that lost 10mm socket. You should find it on January 2nd... Happy New Year! [IMG]

I have a general distaste for the big gatherings, but once they happen it’s a different story.

I really enjoy gathering with the family, and great food at holidays. I just don't care for Christmas. I have a horrible time figuring out what presents to buy for who. I always feel like I get it wrong.

What’s the latest on your Tomahawk Briz? I was afraid to open this thread thinking you had some bad news… so hoping you have some good news now!

Its in #JimWise hands now. There was several power robbing issues , some my fault other were not but have to be fixed anyway. Jim can probably fill in the blanks more clearly than I. Thats for another thread.

My problem with "Holidays" is how they have become financial tools for retailers. It starts in October and ends January 1st

The only thing I hate about the hollidays is exchanging gifts, good for kids, stupid for adults. Have you ever tried welding a nut to a broken bolt and turning it out instead of drilling and tapping?

Actually, yes. I did exactly that on the sheered off bolt in the block. after 3 tries with welder n nut I ended up drilling it out and tapping. But referencing the other part, even buying birthday gifts for my adult children is tough. Bought the wife a 20V chainsaw for her B day!

As I get older I focus on 2 things for the holidays. 1) That you never know when you won’t get another holiday with a friend or family member, so don’t miss the opportunity. 2) Don’t let people over rotate on how it’s “supposed to be”. People get upset or maybe the better term is irrationally obsessed when everything isn’t Hallmark perfect… nonsense. Make a nice home cooked meal, buy a nice bottle of wine or beer. Enjoy that meal with whomever shows up, per number 1. It’s not about the lights, ornaments and presents.

Agree with all of the above... I do enjoy the memories once it's over. I'll miss it all this year as I'm out of country for work until mid-January... BUT, my Bride will have Christmas with her parents for the first time since she was 16 and our grown children will have Christmas with their grandparents for the first time ever... (now that I've retired from the military after 35 years, we can stabilize our home life...)
    Take care all!

As my parents are getting closer to their 80's, I'm finding it more enjoyable to spend as much time with them as I can. The family that is local all met at their house for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, and as usual, it was a very enjoyable experience. I'm looking forward to Christmas dinner with the family next month, too.

Note that I am a pretty social person though, so being around a bunch of people with different outlooks on life is fine with me.

Bummer Michael that you didn't get to spend Thanksgiving with your family. Hope it's different for you next year!

New appreciation for the gatherings since some have passed on who were only in their late 30's from health problems not self inflicted abuse. Won't say I enjoy hosting the events but we're in a position to do it.
We have totally stopped exchanging gift between adults decades ago and WOW brings the JOY back watching the KIDS get stuff.
One of these Holidays will be YOUR last so put on a good face to be remembered by is my thought.

I liken thinking about the holidays to thinking about an upcoming dentist appointment. The anticipation is worse than the actual event and it's over before you know it!
