Has anyone used Snake Oyl services . I heard they were the best choice for restoring seat belts ?

I've seen their work on a number of Abodies over the years....the stuff is very nice. Not cheap but quality rarely comes at a low price. Some Corvette purists won't use them...at least not their rechroming as the chrome is very nice. Too nice, compared to the original chrome look (which is what the most hardcore purist would prefer).

Is the webbing on your belts bad and in need of replacement OR are you mainly concerned about the buckle portions of the belts?

We've used Snake Oyl many times in the past. Very nice work, but very expensive and usually very slow turnaround time. Last couple of times we used Python to restore seat belts instead. The quality was identical, but the turnaround time and price were better than Snake Oyl. We see no reason at all to ever use Snake Oyl again.

Thanks Gary......I remember hearing about them but the name didn't come to mind when replying. Two "snakes" now in the seat belt resto business!!

I just had a set done by Python, they did a great job but turn around was slow. I called each place, Python was cheaper a recommended by a board member here who used Snake Oyl for his GSX.

Mine were done by Snake Oyl and they are nice. One of the tags is falling off however. They also sent me one wrong retractor from another application. It was not the one I sent them. It drove me nuts trying to figure out why it did not work. They sent me the correct one after I called however.

I redid my own. Took them apart, washed the belts, redyed them. I had a lot of them sitting around, used the best parts I had. I think I have about $20 in them. Turned out really nice :)

I've used SnakeOyl twice on my Corvettes and they did an excellent job but, as has been said here, pretty pricey. That was 10 plus years ago. I've seen the adverts for Python and have intended to contact them but wondered if they were an offshoot of SnakeOyl; Python, SnakeOyl-both seat belt restoring reptiles? Both located in North/East Texas? Seemed curious to me.

If your set just needs a light redo I'd suggest trying to do it yourself, as 54Rich did. I think his came out pretty good. The buckles come apart fairly easily and dyeing the belts isn't that hard. I say go for it! If you are not satisfied with your results, then go spend the big bucks.
