Hello, well I'm getting ready to send my gooey, sloppy Quadrajet out to Ken at Everyday Performance in CT for some freshening up. The ID reads 7041540.

After some recommendations from fellow board members and a few phone conversations with Ken himself I feel good about my decision.

I've decided to do some "before" and "after" pics of the carb. I removed it from the car today and left it in the garage to dry out for a few days before shipping. Here's the "before".

I do have some questions. What does this solenoid do on the front LH side of the carburetor? Is it necessary? I have no idea if it works or not or what it does for that matter.

Also, why is there a division stamped in the intake between the secondaries?

You will not be dissappointed I assure you. Ken built my 7041540, all calibrated and pretty too. Thing is flawless!

the division passage between the secondaries matches up with the space on the bottom of the carb.

They help provide vacuum to the rear baseplate vacuum port and also the secondary pulloff.

I've seen his work and I can't wait for my carburetor to get his treatment!

The Transmission Control Spark (TCS) controls the vacuum advance. This is done thru another solenoid connected to your transmission. When hooked up to the 3 port vacuum assembly, which gives vacuum advance to the distributor under 2 conditions. First, when the engine temperature goes past approx. 200 degrees (F) this will happen at times when your vehicle is idling for some time in traffic or on very hot days using your a/c in traffic. You must have an excellent radiator and thermostatic fan / clutch assembly-7 blade fan / proper fan shroud and of course good water pump and ignition timing set properly.

Second, this one is for emissions. Once the transmission goes into high gear (3rd) on automatics and (4th) on four speeds. The solenoid will open via an electric signal (pink wire) from the transmission and you will get your full vacuum advance. Good for cruising and some gas mileage. However, under full throttle, the vacuum signal will drop to zero.

What I've seen when using the solenoid in the circuit is a constant idle speed when the car is warmed up. Straight port vacuum has a tendency to speed up idle. To me personally, idle transfer is much smoother with the solenoid in the circuit. Just my opinion as I have owned my 1970 GS 455 since December 16, 1969, first run of the 1970 model year. I have seen it all and some!!

x2 on Ken - he did my nailhead Q-Jet. Still in the process of adjusting linkages, etc.. but it idles great and the car makes 20 lbs of steady vacuum. Cant wait to take it on the road this weekend.

If that's all it does, maybe I'll bypass it. I'll have to do more research first.

Got my carb back today and I am giddy like a school girl. What a difference! I can barely tell it is the same one I sent out. Bravo, Ken. I'll post the "after" pics as soon as I bolt it on this afternoon.

Well here are some pics. I am amazed. I decided not to go with Ken's option of the Eastwood carb renew to stay within budget. Plus this isn't a 1000 point show car so I don't mind a natural finish.

Sadly I couldn't get it on the car today due to a random blizzard. Note: my feeble attempt to keep the snow out of the engine bay with a patio umbrella. Oh well, it will be together and running someday soon.

And you claim to have Buick blood? BLASPHEMY!!! You tried to KILL your carb... I see what you did to it in the third picture. Now we have proof. MOPAR intake cleaner! Not GM top engine cleaner? I bet you lost 25 hosepower just by having that stuff NEAR your car. Even OJ's lawyer can't get you off now...

Good looking carb! Just gotta ask.. is that a stuffed, or a very still dog in the background?

There are two concrete filled Lab yard ornaments in the background. Not a lot of shelf space in the garage.

Got the carburetor on and running today. It runs superbly; better than I could have asked for. Ken had it set pretty well so I didn't have to adjust it much at all. I bypassed the TCS solenoid and the TCV port on the front of the intake. Tonight will be the real test. I'll be driving it to my dad's shop in an hour so I can start the body work next week.

Here are some pics and a video of the car running. Enjoy!
