I just brought my 70 GS back from a week long road trip, and have convinced myself this vehicle is in serious need of a rear sway bar. I'm aware I'll have to place a sleeve over the bolt in the rear control arms; any advice as far as a brand or make of swaybar? Installation tips? BTW, this is a big-block car...and I will be replacing the shocks and front coils this winter. To save time, if someone could direct me to a relevant thread or website that would be great. Thanx in advance, Dave
My '71 350 Skylark used to handle like a beached whale around town. This is an easy fix. 1. Get the filler plates for your rear arms & have them welded in. This will duplicate the factory style boxed arms. Available many places, about $ 30.00. The spacer will also work. That's what I did the first time. I now have a set of boxed arms to install on the car. Rear sway bars are still available new from GM. 2. Get a 1-1/4" front swaybar from a '76-81 Trans Am/Rally Sport Camaro. It's a direct bolt-on to replace the original 7/8" in your car. You need to change the mounting brackets & bushings at the frame. Check George N.,s site for more precise details. www.buickperformance.com 3. Install a set of gas shocks all around. I used AC Delco at about $ 50.00 each. Others here have recommended KYB. My car is strictly a fair weather driver. No racing, no boiling the tires. With this in mind it is still a completely different animal on the road.
Handling woes... Cool...great website...how did I miss that? Will be doin' some junkyardin' next weekend. Thanx for the help!
