Ok Guys, Here is a picture of my Original spare tire that was taken off a 70 GSX. The tire has never been on the ground and has the nubbies, full mold seam from where the 2 half molds were put together and the letter code that was stenciled onto the tread. I was told the codes were put on the tread area so the assembly line workers could tell the tires apart, while the tires were stacked up. I have no proof of this, but it makes sense. Jeff, There is your "JCDL" code. Duane
Cool! That's neat Duane! I could really use that in the trunk of my convertible.:Brow:  Seriously, thanks for sharing. Jeff
Jeff, I figured you would like it. Sorry, but I think it is destined to end up in the trunk of my 71 GSX. PS. You don't want to know what "dollars worth of parts" I had to trade to get it. Duane
Marco, I started tracking down the DOT codes for the G-60-15 tires. I used info from original cars, assembly manuals, and other factory info. Here is what I have so far. AK Early 70 (From Assembly Manual) JCDL Mid 70-Late 71 (From Factory info and orig cars) JCDM Mid-Late 71 (From Assembly Manual) JCDS Very Late 71 (From Assembly Manual) UFDL 72 (From Assembly Manual) The assembly manuals for 71-72 also have the following statement on page 10-2.1, "The Codes appear on the tread of all tires." So there is proof about the lettering on my tire after all. I also remember some early 70 cars with original tires that had all the raised white lettering, "Goodyear Polyglass GT", but without the size "G-60-15" embossed on them. I will see if I have any pictures. Pretty neat huh. Duane PS. Maybe some of the guys here could give me the year, size, and DOT codes for their original spares and I could see if it jives with the assembly manuals.
my car came with a few spares, previous owner had 4 spares in the car.... 2 were the small ones and one looked original and the other was for a ford escort im guessing the escort one isnt stock lol but did skylarks come with the small donuts that were wide but really flat?
Lee, I know the 70-72 cars had an optional Space Saver spare tire available. It looks like a regular width tire that needs to be expanded. They had an inflator tank that pumped up the tire for use. I don't know if that type of spare was available for 66 cars. My friends 69 Boss 302 has one also. Duane
Not ours ( unfortunately !) but was on FB this summer , and caused quite a stir ! The font sure looks like an original tire . Nice 19 year bump !
It's grown on me. I'm planning on 15x7s for it but I do have another (unused) 14" spare from a '73-4 & could probably come up with a couple more mint wheels if I decide to go w/14s. Car is 2nd in line so plenty of time to think about.
