This argument needs to be turned around. She has been dead for 15 years. The only reason her body is still alive is through artificial means. Why is her body still alive? The ignorance and selfishness of her parents.

It's a damn shame! What's a good cut-off date? 20 yrs., 30yrs, 40? Do we just keep her around in case some miracle cure for being brain dead comes around? If I remember biology 101 correctly, the brain does not rebuild itself on a celluar level. And from her damage, I don't believe there is enough "good brain" to dream of retraining the rest to make it up like a stroke victim could. This is just cruel. Her parents should be ashamed!!!!

how many of you are willing to go to florida and bring her back so YOU can take care of her for the next 10-40 yrs?? not a one i bet. the talk is cheap until you have lived thru it.
btw, same question goes for the anti-abortionists. how many have said "go the full term" and i will take the baby(unheathly or not) for myself. HOW MANY??
and i have yet to see that any anti literature.

i am a catholic, but i dont subscribe 100% to their words. just look at their history.

You guys are all missing the point here.........

IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY LEGAL, HUMANE WAY TO END A HUMAN LIFE, (UNLESS YOU ARE ON DEATH ROW) A HUMAN BEING IS BEING STARVED TO DEATH WITH THE SANCTIONING OF THE U.S. COURT SYSTEM AND SOME U.S. CITIZENS! HELLO!!! IS THERE ANYBODY IN THERE?

WE SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT TO THE IRAQI PRISONERS........COULDN'T YOU JUST HEAR THAT?

Even my dog would not be starved to death if I took him in with an incurable disease! :Dou:

OK.........it's me.........I must be the one who is wrong here.........it is OK to do this. :spank: :Dou:

    what would have them do?

Unfortunately this is not a "pull the plug" type of thing. And yes it does feel cruel, but Korvorkian is locked up. Should she just remain a shell of humanity, be fed for the next few decades, til' god decides to "call her home"? I tell you man that is UNDIGNIFIED!!! And even though she would be starved, she isn't aware of what's going on. This country needs to stop meddling in FREE WILL!!!!! ( after all, didn't god give us that?)

    From CNN.com:

"The president's view has always been that we should be on the side of defending life at all stages, and that includes people that are incapacitated or people with disabilities," [White House Spokesman Scott] McClellan said.

Isn't someone on death row a life, at some sort of stage? Or am I missing something?

Personally, I was never been against the death penalty -- I always felt it was at times applied unevenly or unfairly, but that the system could be fixed. I guess I changed my mind once DNA testing started springing person after person. One guy in florida died of natural causes shortly before he could be executed; DNA testing later proved him innocent. Thank god he was sick enough to die before Jeb helped him along!

It just bugs the hell out of me that the executioner-in-chief and his brother Jeb (who is probably developing carpal tunnel syndrome from signing so many death warrants) can grandstand about how they sooooo respect the sanctity of human life, "at any stage".

what they mean is "we value the chance to pander to the religious right in any state --especially Florida.

I have.Several times, but they chose to kill the babies anyway.

Once again, these people are on death row for a horrible crime,EVERY culture in the world has a death penalty for murder, always have.Doesn't mean that it is an easy choice for a leader to make.In fact Bush has even said on many occasions that that is the hardest thing he has ever done,to allow a persons execution to continue.

Since I am not married, my parent's are my next of kin. They both know I would want the tube removed if I were in the same situation. However, my mother would probably not do it, and my father would fight for it. Therefore, it would not happen quietly as it usually does.

He would not sign me over to her, giving her full responsibility for my care, because he KNOWS that is not what I would want. If he could not convince her, he would have to go to the courts - not out of any personal gain, but because its what I would have wanted.

It doesn't seem suspicious to me that her husband is doing this.

What a terrible way to end a life. Starving a person to death is cruel and should not even be considered. I will not debate whether I agree with the decision to end her life or not. My thoughts and beliefs are my own and my wishes are known and in writing for my family to follow.
This, however, amounts to to nothing more than a mercy killing and if that is the decision, then it should be done humanely. I would not stave to death even the most vile criminal on this planet, yet we will do it to this innocent woman. The judge who is allowing this is either witout concience or doesnt see the cruelty of this decision.

It's no wonder the rest of the world hates Americans. Our leaders are all a bunch of hipocrytes, they only do what they think will get them and keep them in power........not what is right. :bglasses:

I know, that was a political statement, but what the heck, this thread is going down the crapper anyway

Reading al the posts in this topic, I start to wonder if it might be a good idea to move "Help from above" from "Our community" to "The other guys" section of the board......

    Amusing, but enough is enough.

Has anyone else noticed how off-track this thread has gotten; how full of hatred and name-calling it has gotten; how NON-BUICK it has gotten?

What purpose has been served over the last 5 pages?

I've read every word so far, even the quotes upon quotes where I can't even understand what point the writer is trying to make. Granted, there have been a number of intelligent (in my opinion) responses, but has anything been solved?

Has anyone changed his/her mind yet, based on someone else's post, on any of the myriad subjects that have been "discussed" here?

I'm glad this isn't the first thread I went into when I joined this board. If it had been, I'd have deleted V8Buick from my favorites list and left. Fortunately, I know there is quite a bit of useful information elsewhere on this board.

    I'll be going there now.

Try to keep it civil, guys. Remember why you really joined this group.

This is why our leaders are sticking there nose in this, they think it will help them next election. They should stay out of it.
You see these clips of her from 4 years ago do any of you know her condition today. Probably not. Like someone else said i doubt there is anyone of you that would be willing to take care of her or pay for her med. bills for the next 15 years. Its so easy to say what should be done when your not living it. The Dr.s say she has no chance of getting better ,she has no sence of hunger . Let the poor girl rest in piece. If all that i have been tought over the years is true then after she dies and go to the Lord wont she be better off ? Maybe i'm wrong you tell me!!

    You know what's real interesting?

George W Bush, who "values the sanctity of life at all stages", as recently as 1999 (you can look it up) signed a bill into law as Texas Governor that lets hospitals pull the plug on people such as Terri Schiavo if and only if their relatives can't afford to pay for care, and regardless of the relative's wishes. Now THAT is being a compassionate conservative.

And at this point, a seriously pandering hypocrite.
