Looking for a complete door handles for a 72. Need to be pit free to keep the re-plating process successful.

    Al,
I think the New Mexico guy had a 70-72 set. Just make sure you use the correct buttons with the bend in the rod.

    Al,
The mating surface, between the door handle and the outer skin is basically straight up & down for the 70-72 GS/Skylarks…… so if you get a pair of those handles with the bent rod buttons, you should be good.

I went over this just recently in another thread, showing the different angles on the handles. Maybe someone can pop it up for reference.

    Happy hunting.

    OK,
I found some old pics I took.

The 1st pic is of a 69 Skylark/GS set looking at the handles from the rear. You can see how angled the door skin mating surface is.

The 2nd pic is from a 70-72 Skylark/GS door handle set. The door skin mating surface is basically vertical on these.

The 3rd pic shows the same 70-72 Skylark/GS set and although it's hard to see, they do have the bent pins in the buttons.

The last pic is from a 70-72 Chevy El Camino. The housing looks to have the same angle as the 68-69 Skylark/GS handles, and shows the bent door button rod very well.

There are also other handles out there with angles between the 2 types posted above, so if you are looking for 68-69 Skylark/GS door handles you need to be careful to get the ones with the correct angles.

One last thing, there are numbers cast into the handles on the inside. Often they are hard to read, and sometimes a number or 2 might be missing. I do not think those casting numbers were anything you could order, but if the guys started listing those numbers off known "correct" door handles it would be helpful with creating a database to help everyone get what they need.

    Hope this helps.
