You can run 8" or 9" wide on those 7" rims.

10" wide....you will wear out the centre section of the slick first.

While not slicks per say, but I run BFG drag radials in the 235/60R15 size on mine.

I guess you want the look of the buick wheels? Otherwise I would just use some cheep summit racing 15x10 wheels with a 29x10.5-15 slicks.

if you do keep those 15x7 wheels then use a 30X9.0-15 tire. The only good way to mount wider tires on a narrow wheel is by increasing the diameter of the tire. This makes the "bulge" of the sidewall less since there is more distance from the sidewall between the track and the rim. With a shorter tire the tire just has way more pressure on the center of the tread and it wears out too quickly on the center plus you give up lots of your effective contact area due to the lack of the outside of the tire hitting the track.

Another trick for running wider tires on narrow wheels is using low tire pressure, this will reduce the improper wear and lack of traction somewhat. Safety first though and not my first choice.

275/50R-15 (26") is your tire. The 275/60R-15 is 28" tire, and while it may offer more traction, it will reduce your 3.42 gear. I'm thinking your car will trap up around 120 MPH, and the shorter tire would put you at 5300 RPM through the traps without converter slip. I have 3.73's and I run the taller 28" tire. MT ET Street Drag Radials.
