    Hello from the Netherlands,

I have disassembled the timing cover and still my timing chain is very sloppy. Engine rebuild a few years ago with a new very sloppy double roller timing chain.
So it is still very sloppy.
    Is that a problem?
And if I buy a new one it might still be the same.

    Thanks.

Do you know if your block has ever had the mains Align honed or bored?
Honing when done right will only add a very small amount of looseness, Boring can add enough to require a shorter chain.

Even without align honing, stock size chainsets seem to always fit too loose for my liking.
Don't know if they have oversize gearsets that start at just .003 over??

Block was bored. Align honing was not necessary. But, does boring cylinders got effect on tension of the timing chain??
    Or am I wrong?

I've had the opposite....too tight. They make looser and tighter versions of Rollmaster...TA has them.

How do you measure? What is "too loose"?

No one makes a duel idler cam drive for this motor?

Post a vid of the slack in in the chain.
All timing chains have slack, no way around it unless a tensioner is used, and most V8’s of this era don’t use tensioners

No tensioner. I try post a vid

Very good point. it's a feeling. A few years ago and still today.;)

That's too loose for being new. A .003 or .005 set would take that slop right out.
    You want steady timing.
This Cloyes is a .005 over set.

I agree with Mart, it could be a tad tighter, but it won’t bother anything like that if you’ve been running it not knowing the slack in it

It was the same when it was new a few yaers ago.
Does only TA offer oversized sets?

    I’m going to say yes

I would pull cam and look at cam bearings.

Just for curiosity’s sake, see if your timing marks are still lined up between the cam and crank gear.
They probably are, and honestly I don’t think I’d mess with the chain, there is ALWAYS going to be some slack on that side, another .005 isn’t going to matter, you’ll still have some slack, the only way to eliminate it is adapt a tensioner from a Buick V6, but it’s not a concern so nobody has done it :D

Pretty sure multiple manufacturers carry the oversized sets, just have to find them. TA, Summit, Jegs, etc.
I've run a .005 set in a line honed blk and also ran the same set in a non honed stk blk. Go figure....at least the slack is gone.:)
Tolerances during manufacturing are probably all over the place.:D
