Any seat of the pants benefit in removing the smog equipment "controlled combustion system" in a "71 3502bl?

Been reading up on how vacuum vs manual advance works. Had carb cars in the past but never worked on them till now.

Reading power timing your buick and the answer seems to be bypass it. What to remove? Recurve distributor?

Some of the best seat of the pants improvements without resorting to replacing the intake/carb/cam/headers is going to be found in Larry's power timing thread. One of the first things I did to my Riviera back in the day was to bump the base timing to 10* BTDC. Did this many moons ago. Recurved the distributor too so that timing was all in by 2600 RPM.

Larry's post is way more detailed and gives the best description of the procedure I've ever seen.
