Southside bars

  1. I have a set of soutside bars I was planning to put in my 70 GS which is a street/strip car. Currenty, I have a Buick 3.42 with airbags but will be putting in a Chevy 12 bolt with 3.73's. Are the southside bars worth using, or is there something that would be more effective for traction?

If you get the stock stuff with boxed lowers setup right it will work OK without using the Southside stuff. I never liked the looks of the Southside stuff under the car. On the other hand I have a friend that runs the Southside lowers and they work real well. Car (64 Buick Special) runs 11's with no wheel hop on a loose track and good traction on a prepped track. He is running a 12 bolt with 3:73's. I am sure some of the other guys will chime in. Peace, Mike D.

Offering a word of caution based on previous experience, make a habit of checking these units for radial cracking along the length of the tube on a regular basis as they use solid bushings and do not like to be flexed or twisted much-just not very street car friendly. That said, they do work well. Good luck! Jay

I had them on my low11 sec wagon and they worked well. On thing you need to keep an eye on when installing them is it changes the pinion angle alot. check this before you drill the hole for the holding bolt.

Same as all that has been said, i have had then on my drag car for 11 years now, they work with adjustable uppers, and a anti-roll bar real well. And they worked well when i had air-bags in the beginning.
