Like the title says, we put an ass-whoopin on this kid in a 2001 Trans Am! I just purchased a 68 skylark off of craigslist with no exhaust, running like crap and four mismatched tires! Anyhow, my brother and I put a msd 6al-2 on my car and set the timing, Bolted on the stock exhaust with 2" pipe and stock-type mufflers on them, and took it around the block. Low and behold , there is a red t/a speeding up behind us, so I give it just a little throttle, and get up so he can go around the car next to me. So instead of passing me he pulls up even and hops it at me, and says, "200? "I slowed down enough to tell him I wasnt about to lose to a Pontiac, ( I thought he was gonna rip me a new one). I said "for the hell of it but not cash!" He said cool! So we get up about 35 mph and he honks, 1,2,3,and we pulled about 2and a half cars on him:bla: , I hear him banging gears and sounds like hes gonna pull me and I reach up shift it into second and he got a little further behind till I could see his headlights in my rearview mirror:moonu: . It might not seem like much to some people, but my $2,200 1968 buick just beat one of gm's hottest cars! I was stoked! And still am, I have wanted one of these cars for 13 yrs, and finally am able to have one. When I get the "plate" on it I'm gonna "do work" on some of these kids around here! Of course only at the track!:TU:
Hey poison heart, yeah , I do live in texas, midland to be exact. I've got a buick"of course" 350. It has a small cam, and a demon carb on it along with a msd 6al-2 box as well. Headers to come, if i can find a cheap set, (i'm on a budget).
Too bad that Buick drivers always chicken out after a few seconds, why didn't you race him at top speed for a couple of miles ?
I don't know what traffic and laws are like in the Netherlands, but over here that's almost a sure way to get busted or busted up.
Come on Erik:laugh: , You know Buicks are torque monsters. IF we can hook up that torque, our cars are LETHAL from light to light. That's where the fun is, and it is safe if traffic is light. Driving on public streets at triple digits is irresponsible, dangerous, and just plain stupid. Maybe on the autobahn with a lowered car, BBB, equipped with a Gear Vendors Overdrive you could do that and be somewhat safe, and competitive.:TU:
See , to me, being out on a guy a couple cars and him not pulling anything on you, is considered in the, good ol' US OF A a win and pointless to go for a mile or so. With the stock gearing as high as it is, I wouldnt have had a problem doing that, but my passenger surely would have been screaming! And I cant drive with a screaming passenger very well. And simply put, there just wasnt enough room.
Definately a big mistake on his part! A peg-legger car like mine just needs to go from a roll anyway! When I get the 3:73's it'll be a lot better.
I hear ya there brother. I can't get mine to hook off the line for nothing, and when it does the 2.73? granny gears take awhile to get cooking- but once it gets to about 15-20, and hits about 2700 RPM she takes off like a rocket (for a 350 that is)
i think the guy in the ls1 t'a must not know how to shift as he should of murdered you mild 350 would do about a 14.5 stock ls1 with t-56 shall do mid 13s no prob congrats anyways!
Are you sure he was racing? The stock LS1s that I've run against at the track, I jump out on them by about 4 cars if they have street tires, and sometimes they catch me by the 1000' mark. I run high 13s with mods to their mid 13s stock, but with a few bolt-ons they will annihilate most sbb cars.
I don't care to any faster than it will go in the 1/4. For me it's all about the acceleration. I have no desire to go 160 down the highway
What gears do you have?, If we lived closer to one another I'd say lets run'em:3gears: What year is your car? I'm taking mine to the quarter mile track when they get it repaved to see what it runs.
