Speedometer just quit!!!!

  1. Well I had just got through washing the little Skylark and thought I would drive it around the neighborhood to let it dry. I pull out of the neighborhood and punch it pretty good....the speedo jumps up to 85 and stops. Won't budge...stuck there!!! And no I wasn't going 85...50 at the most. It's 102 degrees here right now so I haven't crawled under to check the cable yet. Ya think it might just be the cable or something worse?

I would guess the guage is stuck. If the cable broke, the speedo should be stuck on '0'. If it is that hot, wait until the temp comes down some (80s) and try tapping on the gauge or disconnect the speedo cable and spin it backwards. I have never had one stuck when hot but have had them stuck with real cold temps.

Does the odometer still move? That might help narrow it down.

  4. The odometer still works.
