I am installing a spoiler on my 72. Did the factory use any type of gasket under the uprights? How they the water from entering the decklid???

    No gasket.
I use a little bit of butyl window sealer around the hole and it makes a good seal. Roll it between your fingers to about 1/8. diameter and then put it around the holes.

When I removed my spoiler after many years of being on my decklid you could see where all the dust and stuff that had collected on the base of the pedestill really left its mark, sort of a permanent foot print in the paint. Also I did not use any sealer which i believe contributed to my decklid rusting out the way it did. This time around I will spray something inside the hard to reach non-visible areas to protect it and I will use some type of sealer for both the spoiler and chrome molding. Sucks when my decklid was a super clean piece before I put spoiler on. Live and learn.
