Hey all, the wires leading to my Switch Pitch have been cut. I would like to learn how to rewire them so the original thing works again. I also need to see how they connect on the actual transmission to see if I still have the solenoid or if it might have been removed
Start with a test of the trans. 12V battery applied to either trans terminal should cause a click inside. Here is a sketch of the original switch pitch wiring. These were barely better than nothing, only used the feature at idle and near full throttle. Get an electronic control to enhance street driving. Bruce Roe
You say electronic control. Does anyone know if I can control it with an on and off automotive switch by removing the idle switch (which has been lost) and taking the two wires and connecting them to the switch so I can decide whenever I want whether I want high or low stall?
You can wire it for manual operation, some possibilities are on album SWITCH PITCH TRANSMISSIONS on my PHOTOBUCKET. http://s93.photobucket.com/albums/L71/bcroe/ click on an Album click on a picture to enlarge + description Also some (esp motorhome owners) wire it for either manual or automatic controller operation. Also shown is a flow diag for an electronic controller, which will work a lot harder than you are going to do manually. You do not want to apply 12V and drive a lot of the time in high stall (performance mode), because things tend to run hotter. Bruce Roe
The switch pitch is very simple to wire. The horizontal spade at the transmission is the stator control. Apply 12 volts, you get high stall, take it away, low stall. You can wire a toggle or momentary switch easily. One side goes to key on 12 volts, the other goes to the transmission.
Bruce that is incredible information. Thank you. That is much more than I need but I bet you have certainly helped others. I think I will stick with manual for now because of wiring skill level. Larry, would it be improper to extend the wires to the idle switch (mentioned in Bruce's top post/picture) all the way to the steering column and mount the on/off switch next to my tachometer? EDIT: Of course I know I could go off the battery, but it looks very hackjob in my opinion to have 20 different wires hanging off of the battery.
I would not cut original wiring, just wire it simply from scratch, it isn't that hard. If I was you, I'd get one of Bruce's control boxes and wire it up.
The original wiring is destroyed and the entire idle switch mechanism is missing if you look at the top of my post/pictures. I may consider the control box if I know the price.
I would start by tracking down the original trans power wire, ign controlled and probably fused in the 5A range. All TH400s also need a kickdown switch on the same power, you might need to improvise one if the original is not working. Bruce Roe
