I talked to Rob at Stage 1 Automotive today about my 455 and was interested in looking at it and check it out top to bottom. I have only herd of input about him on the great job he does with the turbo V6s. Has anyone herd anything on big block buicks? His web site is great and seamed very easy going and great to work with. AL
Rob is a fantastic and fair Buick guy who is highly regarded in the V8 circles. His own 'iron headed' race car runs mid-9's. He does all my work, and I'd recommend him :TU:
455 Crankshaft Thanks Marco. I'm still looking at the Sherwood Green post waiting for one to come forward    AL
Re: 455 Crankshaft Me too :beer I'm sure there are other 'shades' of 1970 Sherwood Green not yet identified
I also can recommend Stage 1 Automotive. Over the years Rob has saved me once,by fixing a major oiling problem. A second time he installed a cam and heads. And last summer "92, He rebuilt my entire 455. He is very easy to work with and offers plenty of good advice and recommendations. Just make sure Doug Heckler isn't lurking around!!
Jeez, ya take one test drive, leaving three lanes of rubber across the highway, and ya get branded as a "lurker"! And BTW Kenny, My name isn't Heckler, it's Hecker! You've only known me about a dozen years or so!:moonu: Anyway, on the original subject...Rob does most of my work and he's top shelf. He knows his Buicks and he's fair on the finances. I give him four thumbs up! :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU:
Of course Rob and Stage 1 Automotive are probably about to get real busy, as his name is mentioned numerous times in the article about Greg's car in Hot Rod this month. Can't beat that for some good PR!
Sorry Doug, but every time I think of your last name Hecker,I keep thinkin of the old Heckle&Jeckle cartoons:laugh:
Double thumbs up for Rob at Stage 1 Auto:TU: :TU: He not only does good work, he backs it up if you run into any problems. Case in point is my engine that let go because the machine work on the crank was not done properly. This work was NOT done by Rob, yet he took everything back and had a sit down with the guy who does the work on the cranks along with the machine shop and they have worked things out with me so I can get the engine re-done. Most engine builders regardless of the problem, once the "race engine" is out of the shop it's yours, no matter how many runs. Rob does work with you and does back his work and he too being an active racer knows what works and what doesn't. Rick Martinez PS: Kenny..., Heckler? I like that:Brow:
455 Crankshaft Thanks for the input. Its great being in a club with this kind of support, thanks again!!! I guess its time to pull out the engine crane and engine stand. :TU:
....Another Thumbs up for Rob Quick story - not "work" related but a show of his character. Its important to know I really never knew Rob before this all happened. We were at the Maryland race a few years ago and I blew up my Posi.....no big deal except I DROVE there, ~200 miles, and my ride home was now broken and I had a DEAD car at a track in a town 200 miles from home. Well....the local Buick club president has his shop about 45 min. from the track and offers to house the car there and do what ever repairs I want the following week. Rob generously offered to first tow his race car and family back to the hotel we all were staying at (15 min away), drop his race car off the trailer in the parking lot, MISS DINNER with his family and the whole NorthEast crew, Drive back to the track, Haul my car to the shop and drop it off.....and finally we returned to the hotel where people were just starting to return from dinner. Of course I then took him out to dinner......but I'll tell you this - for someone to go TOTALLY out of their way for basically a stranger, is a true sign of their character Rob - I hope someday to be able to repay that awsome favor
I'm another satisfied Stage1 Performance customer. Rob does great work and really knows his stuff. I have had my TA timing cover, timing chain, X-pipe, Tri-Shield switch-pitch converter, and master cylinder with line lock installed at Stage1. Rob is a very competent mechanic and a fair guy. Jeff is great too.
JIF is great too   You just need to watch him if he's been out the night before chasing women(V8 BB rules prevent me from expounding further :Brow: ) Just bring a caffeine fix for JIF, if you go on a Saturday morning:grin:
WOW, that ALMOST brought tears! Seriously.. That's COOL! That's all the endorsement I'd need. Man, I miss the Right Coast!:ball: THIS, is what I love about Buick people!:TU: Owning a GS is a just a fringe benefit.
stage1automotive Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I guess I will be buying a lot of dinners at the next race! Anyway I will always give a discount to all BPG,GS club members. Thanks again, and remember we also do plenty of V6 turbo cars also. Rob:beer
hmmm If a kind word will get Rob to buy dinner...he owes me alot  Although I've never had any business transactions with him/stage 1 automotive, I would in a heartbeat. Just the fact that he's a great guy who stands behind his work, would get my business. (Free food never hurts) See ya in Norwalk Rob
Well Rob, your reputation preceeds you!!! I started this thread and never dreamed I would see this kind of positive feedback :TU: . Needless to say I will be bringing you my 72 455. When you get a chance send me a P.M. on a good time to bring it down for I don't know your slow and busy times of the year. Thanks again and I will be looking forward to hearing back from you, AL. :Comp:
