That number looks like a serial number for the car that it was once in. What is the number cast in the back top of the engine behind the intake manifold??
It will be seven numbers starting with 123XXXX or 124XXXX
That will tell you the year.

It's a Big Block 455 4 speed GS car what is there not to like!
Forget finding a Stage 1 car you have a very rare desirable car, keep it and enjoy it!

Hey Casey, 4=buick 2=1972 C=southgate plant where the block was built the last digits is the serial# of the car it came out of. just wanted to mention I agree with Tim and Rich. If the car were a stage1 you would have had to pay alot more for the car. In my opinion you did"nt get hurt at all on the deal. I would have paid 16k but I only had 13k to spend. It"s a good solid car!!!!and the 72 block is a good one to build. the right combo and you"ll wipe just about anything on the street. And those snot nosed mama"s boys with their rice eaters won"t know what hit em. so unless you got a stage1 bank roll and the doughray to dump into it I"d be very pleased with the very rare car you got. Just my 2cents. Kirk.

Someone in this thread seems to have a very good case ... as in legal case for false advertising. Many states have a comparable statute like Texas' Deceptive Trade Practices Act ... the mere mention of combined w/ credible sale info (pre-sale advertisement & warranty) usually gets results ... fast.

The fact that the Seller and the auctioneer HAD THE INFO BEFORE THE SALE and then CHANGED THE REPRESENTATIONS of the car indicate more than sufficient credible info provided to show notice of the materially incorrect info and that a reasonable person (i.e., Seller and Auctioneer) would have ruled out "Stage 1" credibility altogether.

I would be curious if any other waivers of warranties or other disclaimers were present in the deal ... the fine points.

Find several recent comps (sales) of both 1971 GS 455 4speed conv.'s and several 1971 GS Stage 1 4speed conv.'s and you WILL have a pretty good definition of MATERIAL as to the expected value of your bargain/deal ... the value you were expecting to receive from your purchase ... but did not.

The value I am referring to is the expectancy value (of the 1971 GS Stage 1 4speed conv.), not what you paid for it.

what are you Hawken---a lawyer? I am just a machinist-business owner but I think I got most of that. Just before auctioning the car and I understand two other times that night the auctioneer gave a full verbal disclaimer concerning the car being a stage one. The problem is, I was out of town and my wife was there with my instructions for bidding and she didn't let anything distract her, not even whatever that auctioneer was talking about. I consider it an unfortunate circumstance. The previous owner still doesn't believe it is not a stage 1. Anyway we are hoping we can make a couple of bucks on ebay for Casey's car fund---thanks for your thoughts

Well I just bid the opening bid of 10000.00... that should get me the car, right?

maybe he just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night:laugh:

Out of curiousity -Why did you start the auction at 10k instead of 1.00? Starting it at 1.00 gives you a much higher biddder count in the end. Its been my experience that a high bidder count seems to attract more attention to the auction. More activity, more interest.

Well, the Rules of Professional Responsibility state that I can't answer that question with a ‘yes’ … yet. I sit for the bar later this year. My day job (law school was a night project) is a fraud investigator, so I get a little irked when I see this ‘questionable’ stuff happening before my eyes and someone taken advantage of.

There’s no “just” in that statement. Don’t you agree your income was hard-earned and that you deserve to be treated fairly from others? I do. If it is an honest mistake, that’s one thing; if it is intentional on the part of the other party or knowingly in the face of substantial credible and overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that is quite another thing altogether.

18 hour days 7 days a week between work and studying … a night at a Holiday Inn Express would be nice.

    I'm still the high bidder!

But I didn't hit the reserve.

I believe that the purchase price at the Auction was 15,000.. His Reserve would probably be a bit more then that to break even.. Just a little FYI... Randy

the purchase price was 16,000. The reserve is just one figure higher. The fourth figure from the right. But please donate to my sons car fund-- its a good cause.

I figured I would get a responce to that.. Well worth that if you ask me..
Rod do you know where to find the numbers on everything? did you find out if its a numbers matching car? That would help or hurt things..I can help if needed.. Randy

Yes, I have checked. the engine code is WF and the serial is on the RF. same serial as listed in previous thread---I was hoping to get some info about the vehicle ID portion of the number but haven't. Trans and rear-end are correct to the car. Everything about the car is so undisturbed and virgin straight, that rear bumper thing is really perplexing to me.I even wonder if it's possible the factory put it on to get rid of 70 stock? Another good thing about this car--the new owner can increase the value of the vehicle 5000. by just pulling those wheels off.[IMG]

    sincerely--Rod
