Mark If your valves are 3/8" stems ignore all of the above.

They are, but thanks for looking Jim!
Im going to order TA's 1125 springs, its says 125 lbs, @ 1.900 being I have a 1.74 installed height that will bring seat pressure up to 140/150 WITHOUT shims, we'll see:D

Mark, that will be about 165 lb. If you have the spring pockets cut .060 deeper, you will have around 150 lb and be further from being coil bound.

The spring pockets were cut way back when Gellner did the big valve install, the “kid” said he realized he didn’t have to cut the spring seats so they put the removable seats in used for aluminum heads, so in essence I could leave those out. I’ll post a pic

I went and measured the height difference between “with spring seat” and without. The seat measures .060 so that makes sense in the measurement I came up with. 77541E19-9730-4306-8ABB-9E6FB67A1382.jpeg 62487638-6490-46E9-A7DE-D964D2BCEC36.jpeg
The first pic is without the seat

I’m pretty sure this 455 springs will be better suited to my heads and application.
Hopefully they will retain the spring pressure longer that the 1130 springs. I’m thinking the reason the 1130 springs petered out is they were always close to coil bind, I’d think that stresses and heats the spring.

Mark, When you get your new springs, at full lift you should be able to get a .050 feeler gauge between the coils. Your old springs are for hydraulic flat tappet cams and normally run 90 lb to 110 lb installed.

How's the i.d. on the inner 1160 spring? If your spring perch was machined off, you may need a locator. You don't want your springs doing the Southside shuffle....:D:eek:

Mine did after some one in Arizona screwed them up, had to have spring locators installed which meant different springs used Mart saw my pic. Spring locators and new springs. The spring broke on original setup and I had to take heads off and have Michael's fix them.

Can't you put those Beehive springs on? I think I would if it can be done they were supposed to make things work better but I have not heard much feedback. Not getting magazines suck!

A better way to check for coil bind at the lift you are running is to check with a .010” gauge and that you can get that into five or better yet six coils.
This is not the way to do it if your running Beehive or conical type springs.

I’ve heard all good things about beehive springs, but not sure if the make retainers for 3/8 stems and 11 degree locks.

I haven't found any 3/8" retainers for the Beehive springs. Most use the 11/32" valves.

Same here, and they use either 7 or 10 deg. Locks
