Starting to think of the issues around starting a rebuilt engine on a rebuilt carb. I would prefer to start her up on a carb which I know runs. But as I'm in the UK and Quadrajets are a little thin on the ground here this may not be an option. I've thought about buying a used and running Holley 650 just to get the engine broken in but that will involve yet another set of machining operations to sort out an adaptor. Does anyone have a QJet which they know runs and which they would be willing to lend to me. I'll happily pay you a security deposit, I'll pay shipping both ways and I promise I'll return it as soon as I have 500 miles on the engine. You can even keep 50% of the deposit as payment for your goodwill. I know it's a long shot. Cheers Allan
After a bit I should have two working Q-Jets and only one 455 to put them on. When will you be able to start the engine? What mods, if any, will the engine have?
I'm probably 6-8 months away from start-up Mods will be TA212 and a bit of headwork. Thanks for the reply
Seems like a good fit. My engine should be very close to yours in set-up. I'll let you know how my carbs work out. If they turn our OK on mine I'd be willing to send one to you.
I had thought of doing that but the only V8's I have access to are all under 4.0 litre and all fitted with EFi.
Allan, PM me with your contact information and we'll get together on this. One of the reasons I purchased a second Q-jet was for backup and/or practice in setting up these carburetors. Having you as a potential user for one of them will give me another reason to follow through with setting up the second one. :TU: Cheers, Doug
