    Hey ho.
Yesterday I was looking forward to a nice ride in my car, sun was shining and it was really warm for a change.
Now I have a modified Holley 850 DP (no choke) so I pumped the gas before turning the key as allways. (I should mention the car had been standing for about 4 days) It coughed at first and didnt start. I thought well ok it happends and gave it another go. I Pumped the gas once more and turned the key... Nothing. Tried without pumping, if it got flooded, a couple of times but nothing. Waited a few hours but still nothing, only turning the engine. :puzzled:
Yes I do have gas in the car :) Ignitionwires are in place, havnt touched the car since last time...

Any ideas are wellcome :) Thanks!

I'd pull a spark plug and inspect it. If its wet look into the ignition. If its dry look into the fuel system.

If you're running with no choke you might need to pump it several times to get the choke effect. Plus gas may have drained down out of the carb. I have an 750 Edelbrock on mine with no choke and I have to pump it probably 5 or 6 times during cranking. Then it fires right up. Without pumping it'll turn over till the cows come home but won't start.

have you tried the simplest trick in the book? Try running the gear shift throught the gears real quick a few times. the contacts can get dirty, happens to me once or twice a year, turn the key and...nothing at all

Oh alright Ill try that one. Not the first place to look, but now I know :)

I lifted the aircleaner and looked down the carb to see if there was any fuel there (looked kinda dry) and turned the throttle but nothing happened.

Ill try to pour some gas down the carb today and see what happends then..
If it fires then I know ignition still works anyway.
Ill have a look at the sparkplugs as well.. just because.

Thanks for the help. Ill be back if there's anything else. :beer

Ok, it wasnt the shifter anyway.

Poured fuel into the carb and it fired right up... and then died.

Anyone had problems with the fuel pump, or filter getting clogged? is it common? (Pump is stock I believe)
Just so I know where to look. Im a lazy man :pp
    Thanks!

This may sound silly, but are you positive there is gas in the tank?

Since the car has been sitting, the gas may have simply evaporated or drained back. You may be able to prime the carb again, maybe twice more, and by then gas may have pumped back up to the carb.

If not, then yes, check your fuel filter and pump. Maybe also look for rusty lines/leaks underneath the car.

Youre absolutely right :) I gues that was the 'problem' :Dou:
Primed the carb again, more than the last time, and it started. Sounded a bit tired at first but then it ran good.

I'd like to ask one more thing though. Does your fuelmeter drop back to 'empty' when egnition is off? Mine is just sitting there on half where I left it. Could the fuelmeter in the gastank be a bit off leaving me constantly running on an nearly empty tank without knowing? Happened to anyone?
    Thanks :)

You might have to check/change your fuel pump.
If the valves are leaking, it most likely drain out all your fuel back to tank level.
It will than not be able to lift the fuel at normal cranking speed, but need the extra speed from priming to get going.
Had the same problem, changed the pump and are up & running.

"Does your fuelmeter drop back to 'empty' when egnition is off? Mine is just sitting there on half where I left it." I believe that is normal on most US cars.
