Starving Engine.....?

I have a "Timing" thread going on in the engine section, I seem to have my timing all in line and the car is running great, now I think I'm running out of fuel at 5k RPM's and above..... :Dou:

    Ignition:
John Osborne Rebuilt distributor, mallory electronic conversion, MSD Blaster coil, 8.5mm super conductor wires. Total timing is at 30-32 degrees all in before 2k RPMS (again, I've been talking with "The Man"... Larry, so I'm confident I can cross ignition off the list for missing/hesitation at 5k RPM's+)

    Engine & vehicle:
Info should be in my auto sig

    Carb:
71 Q-jet rebuilt by John Osborne based on my combo.
    New stage 1 fuel pump

Car pulls great up to 5k, then soon after it hesitates/miss's/floats.... that what it feels like. Due to not wanting to cause any damage, I don't want to take it up that high so I can clarify how it exactly feels..... is it exactly a Miss...., etc.

Any suggestions on how I can determine the exact cause?
Or What I can do to this Q-jet?

I would hate to have to invest in a Holley (I know I can get a holley tuned to produce good numbers), I just like my GSX to look stock appearing. BUt if I'm running out of gas, I might not have a choice.

Do you have headers or manifolds?

manifolds that have been opened up at the collector end, I took off quite a bit of material.

Do you have a Dave Ray AKA IgnitionMan approved coil & setup?
He is the true man. There is no one better. Sorry to offend anyone.

There are only about 4-5 coils that are any good out of all the ones you can buy.

I have an MSD Blaster along with superconductor 8.5mm wires and both Accel and Champion plugs (have swapped in both this weekend) Accel 0276 and Champion RV17YC. A new rebuilt John Osborne distributor, I would be surprised if the ignition is the problem. I won't rule it out.

What's so good about his coil?

If you have a 45k volt coil or a 30k volt coil, isn't it a moot point if the spark plug only needs 20k to be fired (this is a generic example) a plug needs a certain voltage to be fired, no more and no less.

Not his coils, just only 4-5 coils out there are any good.
Or are up to spec for Buick use. Dave builds for everyone.
In reality there is only 1 person better then him and he is dead.

I really don't like to rock the boat but this thread has his approved coil list.
If you search or read around here.
Dave is an awesome dude but he stop posting here a while ago.

He is set in his way but he does build good stuff.
But maybe you got a flaky coil not on his OK list.

He let me have it one day for running the .65 plug gap that I guess Buick changed at some time. He said .45 is the biggest gap you run. he doesn't care what kind of system you got. I re-gapped my plugs.

My testing has shown two things: one, there is little to gain power-wise from gaps much wider than .050, and second, the required voltages necessary to fire plugs with gaps much wider than that finds stuff to destroy without firing the plugs. When it comes to coils, one thing to remember is that the available voltage must exceed the required voltage, or you get a misfire. Turbo or supercharging, or nitrous increases the required voltage tremendously, which is why the gaps are typically narrowed. More available voltage is best, since the mixture requires a certain gap to completely fire it properly. Narrower gaps will not fix that issue. Buick recommended coils were necessary since the coil manufacturers were copying the coils without duplicating the results. Some people understand what works and are not interested in discussing the alternatives. I have no problem with that. Ray

So...WHAT IS YOUR FUEL PRESSURE AT THE CARB AT 5K RPM???

What valve springs are you using?

My motor does the same thing. After to talking to people on the board and replacing or rebuilding parts. The problem it comes down to a faulty stage 1 fuel pump ( i do not have a pressare gauge yet) or I am floating the valves. One suggestion I was given was to block/clamp the bleed back line line on the fuel pump. It did not help on my motor maybe yours?
