in my 69 wildcat i am not willing to cut the dash to install a new stereo. i was thinking of building a console to house the stereo as well as an extra set of small speakers int that the car only came with the 2 speakers. but then i come to the problem of the fact that the car is a convertible and i don't want the new stereo to get stolen. my brother has a console in his jeep that has a flap that covers and locks up the stereo when u are not there. is there such thing for my car. does anyone have any constructive ideas on how to solve this problem
If the underdash 8-track for your car is similar in size to that of the Skylark/GS then you could do what I did for my '71 which was to gut out the 8-track player and do a custom install of a modern AM/FM CD player inside the 8-track so you do not see it. I installed hinges on the bottom front of the 8-track player so the whole front piece swings down to allow for changign stations and inserting CDs.
Here is what I did on my old 442 and will do when my GS is ready. They slide right in no cutting and I mounted a CD changer in the trunk so you dont have to worry about it getting stolen. Its really a clean set up. Hope this helps. I think I have some pics of the changer mounted in the trunk if you are interested just let me know. vintagevibes.net I can't post links yet. sorry
Actually a stereo tape player(GM #98154) was offerred for your year and model. So just buy one that does not work for the case and follow this article on George's site: http://www.buickperformance.com/CD8track.htm
>>Hi Jim. I thought that there might be some sort of stereo tape player for that car - and thanks for mentioning my article! :TU:
hey that is a good idea i could do that and think i will do any of u no where i can get a non working 8-track player for my 69 wildcat
You can also investigate some of the marine wired remote radios. These wired remotes give you most of the radio controls and display in a much smaller way. You can mount the radio under the seat, or in the glove box or anywhere hidden. Since the remote is wired it doesn't need "line of site" to operate the radio. The remote can be tucked away during shows. John
>>I got mine from a board member - try posting in the wanted forum. Also try ebay, sometimes you will find a non-working 8-track player listed there.
