  2. In and effort to reduce the spam on the site, several years ago I had went to a program where I manually approve each and every new registration. This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things.   3. The "Group Buy" for the 1967-68 Deluxe Steering wheel recasting is now officially "Open". Now is the time to start sending in the wheels. The latest date that the wheels must be received by Kochs is 31 March 2025 The cost for each wheel is $750. The only "up front cost" is your shipping the wheel. If you send in more than one wheel, each additional wheel will cost $700. Shipping and insurance to Kochs and return shipping will be extra. You will be contacted by Teresa to make payment for the wheel(s) and return shipping and insurance when your wheel(s) is complete. Sticky sport wheel!

    Question for you steering wheel restorers!
    I have a couple Sport Wheels, the rubber rims are sticky....What would you use to get rid of it/clean them up?
    One more ? does dying these work? and if so what product to use?

    If all else fails, a leather cover is a nice option.

    :Dou: Check the rear ash trays for drive in movie tickets . If you find a few I would try some darn good cleaner or search the above thread here on V8 !

    I have this problem on my Brown Buick, The best solution I have found is WD40 you can clean the wheel with it and it stops it from being sticky without being too slippery (303 vinyl protectant) you will have to reapply it every couple of weeks.

    I had the same question about dyeing. I've got a maroon wheel that I need to be black. I could put a leather cover over the wheel itself, but don't how to recolor the vinyl or plastic or whatever it is on the horn button rim, assuming it's even possible.

    Use SEM and you can dye it.....use Purple Power to degrease/clean the item first...then wipe down with lacquer thinner and air dry.......ready to spray.

    George, do you need to mask the stainless off, I get that it's STAINLESS but you never know!
    Also can you go from a darker color to a lighter shade, IE saddle to sandlewood?

    OK all the SEM stuff seems to be vinyl paint, not dye. VHT seems to be dye. Paint tells me the stainless would need to be masked.
    Dye maybe not.
    Trying to match as close as possible to Brenda's '70 sandlewood interior.
    Any thoughts?

    Yes, you can remove the stainless band....use a small flat blade screwdriver and it will slip off.....slide off from the front towards the instrument cluster.....you will be surprised by the amount of dirt under the band.

    Use Purple Power to clean it and follow the steps I listed above....use SEM....will work the best and last the longest.

    Yes, you can go from darker to lighter.....but will take 2-3 light coats to work.
