If anyone knows of somebody who is looking to turn a 5335 handle into some cash, let me know. But please try to be reasonable, $500-$600 for a shifter handle is way outta line for me. For that kind of money, I will get it with the shifter.
No its the curved flat bar shifter handle with Hurst stamped in it on bothe sides. Push in handle not a bolt on. I have not found it as a reproduction one yet. If it's out there, please enlighten us.
Todd had it but looks to be out of stock now - call him https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/hurst-shifter/
Sounds like you have already made up your mind. An unpitted original 55 year old Hurst 5335 with new chrome with original shifter ball versus questionable quality Chinesium isn’t a real fair apples to apples comparison but what do I know. Best of luck with your search.
Nope, I just got an email back from Todd today. He says that the group who got together to order the last batch, doesn't seem set on doing another run. Both Original Parts Group Inc (OPGI) and Stage Won Restorations (Todd), were getting their stock from that last batch.
Looked up the repops review for you. “The repro handle is like all repros, off. The Hurst lettering leaves a bit to be desired. You can pick them right out. To the best of my knowledge, they only make it as a bolt in handle not a bayonet so it only fits on an aftermarket mechanism with a bolt on style selector” If just doing a driver the repop might be “fine” IF those are even still available (and sounds like you are forced to also buy the 3138 shift mechanism but for concourse “Keep your GM all GM” (although obviously Hurst made it GM had to approve it). It all adds up either way repop and requiring more parts than original or buying a thrashed original, then filling pits to get a flat surface, then show chrome & waiting & hoping it turns out right. Hopefully one of the guys can help you out though. Night
I wouldn't want a repro. The only spare handle I have is a complete shifter/handle/rods assy. & I'm not sure I want to split it up although maybe as I might keep that shifter/rods for my car.
Your rods would not work for my set up anyway. I am running a Super T-10, not a Muncie. Would you consider parting with just the handle and shifter?
I may/prob. will need the rods & shifter body for my car (oddly I already have a mint handle for that car & a beat shifter body & also a box of rods that I'm not sure what they all fit). So I may wind up selling the extra handle. It's still all in a totaled 4-sp car. that I'll be parting out & I haven't really looked at the cond. Let me think on this & make sure but if you don't come up w/one in the meantime...
I believe the Olds shifter is same shape but has the H instead of Hurst spelled out. If you’re looking for close appearance on the cheap - easier to find. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235409645382
