    skitzofrenic66 What's an Import?

i dunno if i have it hooked up properly or not but my 455 was an a/c motor and i deleted that nonsense and so i blocked off the vacuum ports.

problem is my secondaries bog no matter what. im no expert at all on these things so im a bit lost.

basically the only vacuum port i have hooked up is the progressive one on the front of the carb that goes to the vacuum advance. the carb is tuned nicely, engine runs fine just a hard bog when opening the secondaries :Do No:

Is the vacuum break on the front passenger side of the carburetor functioning, and is the link connected to the air valves. With the engine running, you should not be able to push in the air valves. The vacuum break should hold them closed. The air valves are on top on the secondary side.

id forgotten to update this thread.

pretty much my secondaries fly open when engaged and it seems the spring tension on them is lacking.

i understand there is supposed to be a small adjustment screw behind the linkage on the passenger side with an allen to hold it in place but i havent found it. is it possible for it to be non-existent on some models?

also, i read there is another secondary air valve adjustment for those top flaps but you have to take the top plate of the carb off. is that true?

honestly im shooting blanks on this thing as i havent had much experience with qjets. i grew up around square bores and thats all im familiar with aside from the simple tuning procedures

See if this thread helps at all:

It's regarding a problem opposite of yours (stuck/slow secondary air valve) but the mechanics of the thing should be explained to some degree, and the photos might help

You should have a set screw on the passenger side that is an allen head that will allow you to tighten the spring tension for the secondary flap. The allen head screw faces down toward the bottom of the carb, and the adjustment screw faces out towards the side of the car. Tighten that flap down 1/4 to 1/2 turn past the point that it holds itself closed. That should be a good starting point to see what happens.

Sounds like you need to adjust the secondary windup spring; it's easy once you've done it. The lock screw is up-side-down and a small allen head, the straight screw you need to turn once you've losened the lock screw is small and hard to spot when the air doors are closed like they will be when you're trying to find it. Stand on the right (passenger) side of the car and open the secondary air doors a little with your fingers and look closely behind the lever on the side of the carb you moved to open the air door, you'll see the straight screw.
Be very gentle turning the spring, if you stress it out it's a real PITA to replace:ball: I'd back off the spring until it just contacts it's stop and then turn it 2/3 to 3/4 of a turn and tighten the lock screw; that should be a good place for you to start. Good luck!
