Has anyone had any luck stripping paint off of plastic center consoles? I have a very nice center console for my 70 and someone taped the console lid shut at some point and when I went to repaint it, there are two spots on the side of the console that stand out like a sore thumb where the tape was stuck. So I figured I would dull it out with thinner and a scotchbrite pad and made a mess out of it and the grain is dissappearing at this point. SO, i want to strip off all the paint and start fresh. Iused krylon semi flat yesterday on it. I attempted to use paint thinner and it didn't even touch the krylon. Regular paint stripper for urethane bumpers eats the plastic. I need some help on this one guys????

    Thanks

Maybe if you turn the pressure way down you could bead blast it? I've never used walnut shells or the like, but maybe that would work.

I used sand to strip a plastic rear deck panel once using low pressure fine sand, but it left some minor pits. Any chemical stripper will ruin the plastic for sure.:bglasses:

I don't know if consoles are the same type plastic as grilles, but one board member had very good results stripping the paint off his grille with oven cleaner and not hurting the plastic.

A friend of mine who is into model cars uses oven cleaner all the time to strip paint without hurting the plastic. I believe EZ Off is the preferred brand.
