As I leave my residential street I come to a stop sign and then turn right. On the right about 30 feet down the larger road for the last few months was one of those speed-warning signs. Now, I don't generally take issue with them, but the county could at least take the time to program them properly. Most of them tell you your speed and then, if it too high, the numbers flash or it flashes "Slow down" or whatever. Not this one. I turn right and get: After that I get The things reads properly if your coming down the larger road, but no matter how first you are going -- "Please slow down". In a 35 zone doing 30, 25, 15, it doesn't matter: "Please slow down". Heck, at zero mph I'm not even sure what to do. Reverse it? Turn left instead? Time travel? Other than 0 mph, the slowest I ever got was 5 mph. My daughter got it to read 2 mph. I tried to best her with 1 mph for weeks but no dice. They finally relocated the POS last week. Good riddance.
I've seen new ones recently that are about the size of a clipboard, that they fasten on to poles or signs. They flash your speed when you're over the limit, and if you are 5mph over they flash red and blue LED's at you.
I have seen these since the late 1980's. The first I ever saw was on the Whitemud in Edmonton. It was on a southbound curve where the speed dropped from 80 kph to 50 kph. Almost no one slowed down enough for it not to flash "Slow Down". I have never seen one that flashed red and blue though.
They set up one of these on a residential side street, in my old neighborhood. The kids all lined up with their bicycles to see how fast they could go. It was pretty fun to watch.
They have already inundated everyone to STUPIDITY with TV Commercials while not when you are driving ?? Case in point : Insurance Company Commercials . Do they really think people will buy their Car Insurance because they have a guy " Selling Wet Teddy Bears " ? Or because they have a Gecko as a Mascot ? Or for that matter an EMU ?? They all harp about how they will modify your policy and Let you only pay for what you need . Which is your state Minimum coverage . They don't advertise that if it is $5,000 and you destroy a $80,000 vehicle belonging to another person that you are up $hits creek . Its a continuation of the " DUMMYING OF AMERICA ".
If they want to sell me Ins they need to feature hot chicks showing as much skin as the FCC will allow and some fast cars. Thats why I run E3 spark plugs and am now considering buying a Bad Boy mower. My old Hustler just dont look the same anymore.
Florida is getting rid of "no fault" insurance because it doesn't work. My home state of Massachusetts found that out about 20 years ago.
