I'm thinking that I will never have the money to put together the motor I really want in the next year, so I decided I will go with a cheap motor, and I was hoping some of you could help me decide which is the best way to go.
I have a running 68 400 with a GS118 cam, a complete 75 or 76 455, and a 71 GS block that has been machined. I also have 71 GS heads that have been converted to stage1 spec. I want to save the later block to build a really hot motor later, and I want to sell the '71 GS block to someone who needs it for their '71 GS (no need to trash a good GS block in a non-matching car). I am thinking of using the 400 block, and getting a set of used 430 pistons (my dad has a few 430 blocks around) and boring it over to standard 430- 0 decking it, and using the '71 heads. I would like to have the bowls cut on the heads, and maybe do a little port and polish work on them (they have already been gasket matched).
Would it be worth the money to have the rotating assembly balanced? Also, should I keep the GS118 cam, or is their another cam that would work better with a near-stock 10:1 motor?
This will be going into a '69 with 4:11 gears and a 400. I have a B4B intake, which I plan to use with a 1" spacer, what looks like TA headers, and I will either be using a big Qjet or an 850 holley. MSD ignition. I would like to get the car to run at least mid 12's.
Here is a dyno sim of the motor I have in mind. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Run the 113 instead, you will like it better. It has a healther lope and way more pull across the board.

Thanks for the idea. I will go with a higher stall converter, so I can go up on my cam specs. What about the 113A? I think I will have the compression for it, but will it make a big difference over the 118 or 113?

The 113a is a great cam too. perfect for getting a lotof power out of stock heads.

    I run 10.2, 113a, 71stage1 heads(bowls blended-stainless valves, ported manifolds(headers one of these days), a B4B, and a 850 Q-jet.

    In a 4480lb. 73 riv, with a 3000stall, th400, 292posi it ran a best of 13.70.

    So it's a good combo.

If you run it I would say a 2500stall, 3:42 or 3:55 gears.

If you run a overdrive I would say 3:73

113a sounds like what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I will be stuck with the 4:11 gears. I bought a nice 12 bolt with eaton posi, etc. Thanks.
