Hello all just asking if it's a normal thing with mounting rear sway bar to axel and frame? hellwig has them to mount in those places and was wondering if you do the same or what the best rear sway bar to run on a 71 skylark. thanks for you input and help.
it usually mounts on the rear lower control arms. I recommend to look into "Chevelle" aftermarket parts they are the same fit, you usually find much less aftermarket supplier who promote the fit for Buicks. Summit racing is your friend
Thats if you want a stock installation. Make sure the lower arms are boxed. If not they sell kits to convert them. Go with a larger than stock front and rear bar for better handling. There are more "complex" styles that can give better results depending on your pocket book. Remember the suspension is a system - make sure the parts will play nice together.
For additional info about Hellig rear sway bar kit, check out Summit Racing web site. Part #55868. This kit does not bolt to the control bars but to frame and rear end.
The stock rear sway bar mounts between the 2 rear lower control arms. For that reason, it is less effective as it indirectly increases roll stiffness. I have Metco upper and lower control arms on my GS. I also have the HR Parts n Stuff rear sway bar. The bar bolts to the axle tubes, and the rod end type end links bolt to the BODY cross member. It is way more effective. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/hr-parts-n-stuff-vs-sphon-rear-sway-bar-set-up.278685/ http://www.musclecarsuspension.com/index.php?route=product/manufacturer/info&manufacturer_id=11
