T10 decoding.

    Those are the stamped numbers on my 66GS BW T10 :next to the trans.cover on drivers side..

    WD1162

    Is this correct???

    W=Warner gear.
    D= April.
    11= 11 april.
    6= 1966.
    2= Shift.

    Im Trying to find the stamped Vin-Number on the tranny but can`t find it :Do No: where should it be :confused:
    Did all the trannys get stamped with the vin?
    The Body and Engine numbers match and body is from first week of April
    so i guess the tranny is correct too, being from second week of april.. :Smarty:

    thanks ! that was actually the site that helped me with the code id.
    Don't know how I could have missed out on that info :Do No: maybe I got the syndrom called buicktitis .... :shock:
    must go back and check that vin location... :3gears:
    not before middle of this week.... car is at the garage lots of miles away... :ball:

    The date code you are talking about "WD1162" is actually the date when the transmission was assembled. There will also be date codes cast into the parts themselves and they designate when the parts were actually cast.

    The main body uses a letter/number to designate the month and day, as does the cast iron side covers (learned that one from Walt)

    If you have an aluminum side cover the date code is on the outside and looks like a very small circle with numbers/info inside. The cast iron ones have the date on the inside.

    The tailshaft date codes are obvious.
    All this and more are in the date code book I wrote earlier this year.
