How are the idle manners? Streetability? Is there a better choice? I am at the juncture of a cam for my motor now and would like feedback. Wonder if TA has any in stock or not.

I got a 290 94H for my build and so far the feed back on that cam has been good. I've found sound clips on YouTube plus other members have posted some on here.

    Pat,
Idle manners? Street ability? That's subjective. TA says "Fair Idle" which means Heavy lump. What are you willing to put up with? What do you want it to idle at? Do you have power brakes? Might not have enough vacuum. Street able means different things to different people.

My current cam is a Bullet cam that idles at 900-1000 rpms. It has a decent lope to it and it works with the power brakes. Brakes aren't like stock, but there seems to be good braking with my car. I have a power brakes but I will be putting the Wilwood setup on the front. I have Stage 2 headers running through a mandrel bent 3 inch exhaust.I was just hoping to see if anyone actually has this cam and how it acts in a street/strip car. I also have a 3000 stall converter, but may get another one suggested by a transmission builder if they deem it necessary

I think a roller version of that cam would be the ultimate Stage2 cam. It would make more vacuum than the flat tappet version. Interestingly enough, when JW was doing my first motor, the one he tested 3 cams in, he PM'd me and asked if he could try one more cam in that block. It was a roller 290H, the TA290HR. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, and the engine lost 40HP/40TQ. That is what prompted Jim to take the motor apart which ultimately revealed that blocks weakness. That is when Jim built me a second motor with a much better 75/76 block. I wonder what ever happened to that 290HR? Maybe ask Jim about that. He probably sold it, but who knows?

Larry, I'd love a roller cam,but it may just be out of my budget this season...

what advantages or negatives are there with it being a straight pattern cam.?

Right now you couldn't buy a roller cam even if you wanted one.
