Since Martin I have replaced the worn out distributor, went from a 3.42 gear to a 3.90 and replaced the exhaust system with a mandrel bent X pipe system. Was able to put about 100 miles on her at Woodward and she seems to be more perky. Will give her a shake down and see if I can get into the 14's......somewhere near K code territory ray: Jody
Sorry, I just got off work today but no, it was not as I had hoped. The Good: I made about 5 passes with .11, .08, .08, and .0111 lights. The Good: My best 60 ft. was a 2.35 from before. I ran 2.30 for my first attempt, 2.32, 2.26, 2.25 and a 2.21 on my last one. The Good: My best passes last year were 15.35 and 15.36. I ran 15.34, 15.19 and a 15.17 on my best 60 ft. The Bad: No where near the 14's. Mark thinks I need much more fuel. We played with hangers but not needles. I had timing close on my previous set up and not sure if I need to look at that again or not. A little disappointed but have some tuning to get through. Jody
It appears most of your ET improvement came from the better sixty foot times. Did you pick up any MPH at the stripe? What about at the 1/8 mile? How much MPH did it pick up from the 1/8 to the 1/4 previously? What about yesterday? Did you compare density altitude between both track outings? Sorry for all the questions, just hoping to help by gaining the full picture through more details.
By weather history archives, you had MUCH better air when you raced it w/o the gears and exhaust upgrades. Dragtimes.com's calculator corrects your ET 15.19 from last night to 14.942 @ 93.05 MPH IF you had similar conditions to what you raced in on 5/24. It looks like you picked up less than 20 MPH from the 1/8 to the 1/4 both times. That could be an indication of needing more fuel up top like you have already stated. IMHO - it's already running a lot faster than I would have guessed for a car rated at only 200 HP.
Not bad for 200 Net hp. Keep in mind they were tested in Magazines at around 15.70 @ 88 mph. I have I am sure a little better exhaust and a 3.90 gear now instead of a 3.08 so I do not think low 15's even high 14's is out of the question. It just falls off at 4,800 especially in 3rd and I am going through the traps at about 5. Jody
I think with good air, and more tuning you will run a full second faster than the magazine times. (15.7) You are more than halfway there already. :TU:
That is exactly the time I need as I will be racing a 65 K code Mustang at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Races for a special display the MCACN show is having for these cars this year. The Mustang has already hit the 14.70's I got less than 3 weeks to get things figured out. Jody
