To all fellow Texas Buick owners: How many of you would be interested in bringing out your Buick GS or GN for test and tune/get together at San Antonio Raceway sometime in August? I am putting this out there to gauge interest, hoping to revive our small Buick community. SAR is a world class facility and I know the track operator. If we can get enough interest we can make this event in August and perhaps make it a yearly get together. I believe there are quite a few GS and GN's in the surrounding areas (Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi, Waco etc). Please share your thoughts, type of cars, ideas. Sincerely, George E. Pollakis GSCA #29
Would be Great, even if I am there just for Bench Racing & the usual "Get Together" at the Motel. Will see what we can do from the Houston side. Any Idea of a date?? JR
Sounds like a great time. Not sure if my car will be ready in time this year though. Trying to get it road/track worthy for the GS Nats. It's going to be really close. But we may be willing to attend as spectators at least. Keep us updated on if this unfolds.
I am game, still working on getting my latest GS ride up to par, but hopefully by August everything will come together as needed and I can make that meet and greet get together. Count me in. Thanks. Bill
Sounds like a great time, except maybe the heat! Will definitely try to make it, with or without the red Special. Steve
Hey guys, how about August 5 (friday night test and tune), and Saturday August 6th? Gates open at 6 pm on Friday and you can run quarter mile. The next day they have bracket racing that starts at 9 am. Share your thoughts, everything is up in the air as of now. We need more cars so please pass the word, as not everyone is on this site. If it is to be it will be up to us. Thanks George Pollakis
I'll certainly come to at least spectate, and it might be an excuse to put the 68 conv back together, that I took apart a few years ago for restoration work that barely got started...
Ok Buick guys, Here's our options: 1. Friday night between 6 pm and midnight, which is a test and tune night for the track. The heat is more tolerable during the evening hours, the track is set up for quarter mile but the only downside is the track is not prepped and as a result little or no traction. I witnessed that first hand this past Friday. It might an issue for some of us or not! You can get as many runs as you like. 2. Saturday, gates open at 9 am, track is prepped as they run 1/8 bracket racing till about 5 pm. The heat will be something to consider. You only get two time trials if you choose to compete. My vote is for Friday night, say we get there early around 6 pm, and get as much tnt as we like. Please share your thoughts and I will make decision and announcement in a couple of weeks. Thanks George Pollakis
Brian, if you want to bring a Pontiac it might not be a bad thing. Going forward we might have something as far as BOP getting together in this area.
I was at the local Pontiac club meeting last night. According to all the old timers, there used to be a BOP Shootout that was ongoing until the Raceway had its financial event. It used to be in the fall as recently as 2014. I think around October usually. One or two of the organizers have moved away, but getting something back on the calendar is definitely an item our club would like to be involved in. Once a date and time are set, I will send out an e-mail to our mailing list. I know a few of the local Olds guys are on it as they've also had Pontiacs in the past.
Ok fellow buick guys, our TNT will be Friday night August 5th. Gates open at 6 p.m. Please make plans to be there. Would love to see some Buicks, Pontiacs and Olds muscle. Pass the word around and lets make it happen. Our GS Nationals are coming up pretty quick this year. Hope to see you there. If you have any suggestions please post. George Pollakis
